They did an all ages port on the ps2 of school days and still had implied sex.

This however is a complete spin-off like summer/shiny days. Despite those two having sex as well this could be a chance to appeal to younger audience. Who knows maybe island says might focus more on the romance side/relation ship side with some killing thrown in.

I suppose going back to the franchise's roots by having a cannibalistic survival ending is out of the picture?

Yeah, too bad Sekai Project is more worried about translating indie games.

School Days was essentially an early retirement project for them. After the franchise hit it big via anime publicity, any original title was cancelled in favor of ports, enhanced releases, and the odd spin-off (the last one being rather trollish, which was fitting for a management that was perceived to view customers with contempt).

Recently, the Stack/0verflow decided that they don't even need to maintain a development team. Costs can be minimized by having no employees and then contracting an external studio (i.e. Klon for Island Days) whenever the need arises.

The characters are very popular in japan and it helps sell merchandise. Everyone please keep in mind these characters don't exist in just one universe. You can re-use them in a happy/light hearted setting if you want to, i know school days fans want more blood but we have enough from SD as it is.
