It's over, yo. Outta my way, Decepticon Effing Shits is opening and you know it's going to make all the money just like all of the other ones have. It may still be terrible, replacing Lebeouf with Wahlberg means it at least can't be as bad as 2 and 3. Might as well just embrace the Bay at this point.

It's not over until it finishes its Japan run, which doesn't begin until next weekend. [Though IMDB says it opens limited there this weekend.] And Edge won't have to compete with Transf4mers in Japan, since that doesn't get a release there 'til August.

Not happening. I saw the first one and was bored by the excessive action (too much of anything gets boring eventually), and feeling sure that the sequels would just try to outdo each other in that respect, I skipped 'em all. I do want to see "Edge of Tomorrow" -- or "All You Need Is Kill" as the title will (surprisingly) read when it opens in Japan next month. I was skeptical, but the reviews have been stellar, and I love good SF. |

I'm a Transformers fan and I hate the movies, but the reality is it will blow everything else out of the water.

WHY? Why do people flock to Michael Bay movies? I can only assume that people don't want to have to think in the summer. *sigh*
I get why this movie didn't blow up the box office--the source material is basically unknown and Tom Cruise is past his prime and just doesn't have the pull with the public he used to. It's too bad, because all the reviews seem to agree that it's a solid sifi film. Unfortunately, that sequel novel has nearly no chance of becoming a sequel movie now. |

This movie was actually really good, surprisingly so. It's a shame it didn't do all that well over here, it's probably the best action movie I've seen in years.

It's unfortunate but... put the camera on some hot girls and have some nameless robots with no personality beat the shit out of each other and you will get people rushing to the cinema. I've read some people describe the "plot" and "ideology" in Transformers as the best of 2014. I don't even know what to say. I feel sorry for How to Train Your Dragon and Edge of Tomorrow. |

Because people are aloud too and are able to spend they're own money however they want. WHY!? Do you care? I can only assume people like you either choose to dislike his films and that's totally fine, your opinion anyway or you don't have enough money to be able to enjoy such an outing or a venture to the movies like others. |

Well, first off, there are plenty of successful movies which are based off niche source material. You think The Ring movies did well because most Americans knew about the Japanese versions? As for Cruise, that's not true. MI 4 was huge. There are a lot of reasons Edge of Tomorrow disappointed, but those weren't the main ones. The main reason is Warner decided to make the film compete against two heavy-weights which were bigger draws for (shallow) female viewers. The second reason it didn't do as well as hoped is that AYNIK clearly wears its FPS influences on its sleeve, and most chicks do not like or care for the FPS sub-culture. In addition, they got beaten to the punch by a certain mutant movie which also incorporates time travel. Finally, I know the studio wanted to avoid losing ticket sales to the World Cup, but I think giving EoT a July date would've helped them more, considering the overall crowded market. |

Why do I care? Have you ever asked a sports fan why he cares if his team's rival does well? Even if we have almost no control over it, we're all allowed to root for our team. Transformers is the Yankees, All You Need is Kill is the Mets. Even if they're not competing against each other directly, I have every right to root against the Yankees. Screw the Yankees!

Double posting is frowned upon, but this needs a proper response:
MI 4 was released in 2011. Oblivion was released last summer and didn't do that hot.
Wait, wait, wait, female viewers are shallow? Really? Who do you think is the primary audience for big budget action movies? And you're basing this on The Fault in Our Stars, I assume, because it's a tear-jerking romance...does that inheritely make it shallow? Why? Or maybe you are assuming female viewers are the primary audience for a Tom Cruise movie since he used to be considered one of the most attractive men in Hollywood? I don't understand your reasoning here.
Again, are you assuming women are the primary intended audience for EoT? As for source material, EoT is one of the only non sequel action movies this summer, and it doesn't have the recognition of a big comic book superhero. |

Well, if you wanna go there, neither did the director's other work, Tron: Legacy. And that was a lot hipper and flashier than Oblivion. Anyway, it still opened at #1 that weekend.
It works both ways.
Because it's turning a debilitating disease like cancer into a sappy tween flavor of the month fantasy?
They probably weren't the primary audience, but they are influential, in terms of box office sales.
How many YA books really have that much wide recognition when they get adapted? |
