I have no idea if those numbers are good for a limited release like this, but I hope Funi is happy with those numbers.

I imagine putting this together wasn't easy, and there were a few technical snafus, but still it was a nice thing to do.

It's probably the best a spin-off of a hit anime franchise has gotten, since Pokemon, Digimon, and YuGiOh.

Wow, I had no idea Arrietty [sp] was that popular. Still, I guess those numbers are good considering the others are part of huge kids franchises or Ghibli (granted, DBZ has accumulated a massive fanbase over the years). Personally I don't really want to see Battle of Gods because reading the plot summary made me want to vomit. :/ I don't need anymore new DBZ content besides the games frankly.

If it could go past $20 million, then it would be #3 in theatrically released anime of all time in North America. I think that it would been more likely if the movie came out when DBZ had its biggest heyday here (something like between '99-'03).

Still, congrats to Funi for getting that many theaters to be able to screen it.

Hopefully, these are the kinds of numbers that Funi was hoping for when they set out to do a cinema release for this movie.

Best scene, Bills beating SS3 Goku with one swift chop like a scrub. Priceless.

That's not bad at all i mean the other anime films all had weeks and this film only had one showing each of the days so 2.5 mill id call that a big hit for what this was Very Happy

Hate to break it, but BoxOfficeMojo has this US release as coming in behind the money earned from either Mexico or Argentina showings, even Peru had $1.8M, hotbed of anime fandom that they are. While I despise DBZ, I think the fan showing for this was rather sad or else the marketing failed.

DBZ was shown for a few days and didn't have near the showings that a regular movie had. That number would be bigger if it had more time.

The movie itself is mere fanservice. 2.5 mil is plenty for less than a week.

That list reminded me of when I went to watch Pokemon, Digimon, and Yugioh in the movie theater. Good times.

Hiroki: If it didn't do better, I guess you could always blame it being pirated, and it taking over a year to get any release here.

I pity the fools who gave their hard-earned money to TMNT instead of this movie.

Shadowrun20XX sez:

Good point, but Mexico still had us beat as the opening 4 days saw $2.77M and an average of $3300/theater versus the US run of 8 days for $2.55M and a peak of $1600/theater. Argentina had about 1/2 the US turnout at $1.3M in 4 days. It turns out that Mexico has what looks like a substantial anime fandom, many anime cons. Check out Kigurumex if interested. Who knew (I didn't!)?

@Hiroki: Watching anime movies isn't an international competition, unless you're trying to construct an illusory, nationalistic victory.
