Anyone else sick of hearing about Final fantasy, naruto, bleach and fma?
I just recently came back from anime expo in london where all they praticly sold on the stalls was these three animes, even the games section was playing the new naruto game, and there were no cosplayers (asides from the power rangers lol) that werent dressed differently.
Now im not trying to say they are bad shows or people should watch somthing else. Im just saying that these shows are everywhere and its getting a little on my nerves. Just wondering if anyone else felt the same?

I was a bit annoyed at Naruto always being on the front cover of SJ. Yes, Bleach is a common subject apparently. But I never let it bother me. As for Final Fantasy, all I have to ask is: "When are the games for Final Fantasy ever going to cease?"
I'm so sure that more games will follow due to the release of the PlayStation 3 in December.

You mean, as opposed to other anime? Well ya, but it's to be expected. Not to say the shows/games were bad (haven't seen enough of Bleach though), I like all of them. But there's really nothing you can do, they're going to be popular whether you like it or not. I'd love it if one of my favorites like Galaxy Angel or Genshiken were able to gain anywhere near that amount of popularity, but it's just not not gonna happen. I make do with what I have and just go along with the rest...
Although, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya actually shows some promise to becoming moderately popular. This is plus, because it's much different than any of these (or pretty much any anime that has become popular in the US), and I'd love to finally see a different genre of anime be in, or at least share, the spotlight for a bit. I still doubt it'll be anywhere near as popular as these though.

Actually, as much as I love all 4 of those (FMA is in my top 3, I own nearly every English released FF game, and Naruto and Bleach I followed religiously for over a year each)... I kind of have to agree. Personally, when I go a convention, I like to see the more niche/unheard of titles advertised. Yeah, Naruto is really popular here, I get it; Bleach is going to become more popular very quickly over the next few months, and so on... but I don't understand why they get all the attention. These aren't shows people need to have their attentions drawn to. Personally, I view all the buzz as a form of advertisement for your favorite show to try and push it to the forefront of the culture; what's the point in everyone 'buzzing' about shows that are already popular? Shows like Mushishi, Kino's Journey, Ouran Host Club, Air, HxH, Twelve Kingdoms (ok, at least this one gets a bit of buzz), these are some of the real gems that simply do not get as much buzz as they probably should for a variety of reasons.
The problem I have with those 4 getting as much attention as they get isn't that they get that much attention, but that there's really only so much attention being spread around, and them getting a disproportionally large share of it leaves other titles to be overlooked.

Yes i see what your saying pants, and it makes sense, i suppose if there was one of my favourite animes as popular as these then i would be pretty happy.
Yes i too agree that The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya could make it pretty big, however because its so diverse in comparison to Bleach fma ect... it's doubtful to really take off.
I suppose i shouldn’t complain and get on with it but i just wanted a general view on things.

I'm pretty sure that Haruhi is on the rise. It's only a matter of time 'til it's licensed in my mind. When I went to MangaNEXT a few weeks ago, they were marathonning (spelling?) all 14 episodes of it in the screening room. And, if I recall correctly, almost all the seats were filled when I went inside to see how it was going (I had already seen the series; I just wanted to see how popular it was with the crowd).
As for Naruto, Bleach, and FMA (all personal favorites of mine), they're mainstream titles that you'll probably never be able to get away from. And the FF games, I never played any of them, but I watched my brother beat all of them (I never was into video games), and they got everything that you love in an RPG. I think it really started with FF7 and how amazing its graphics were for the time it came out (or so I've heard from my brother). Plus how good FF7 was overall, the sales of the subsequent FF games were pretty high too. I found FFX to be the most entertaining after FF7. Those CG video sequences caught my attention and never let them go.

Given the friends I have, I am VERY sick of hearing about Naruto. My college's coffee lounge is basically one big, non-stop Naruto conversation, and many of my friends (well, former friends) will bring in that damn Gamecube game and play it to the point that they're skipping class several times a week just to have some extra rounds of it. Day in, day out, it's all nothing but Naruto, Naruto, Naruto, Naruto, Naruto, Naruto, NARUTO. And I wasn't that keen on the series to begin with (after the Chuunin Arc, it lost a lot of its appeal), so you can imagine how irritating this became after a while. And no, they're not former friends just because they like Naruto, but because they're letting that damn series consume their life to the point of utterly alienating themselves from anyone that isn't as obsessed as they are.
Bleach I've probably heard the least about out of the four you've mentioned, and I'm liking what I'm seeing on Adult Swim, so it's all good to me for now.
Final Fantasy I've never been much of a fan of. Especially Seven, which is not only horrifically cliché and dreadfully dull to play (even compared to other Final Fantasy games), but has this blind legion of devoted followers singing its praises as a grand, epic, innovative, unique narrative with a wholly fascinating gameplay system the likes of which have never been seen prior or since (which, honestly, is absurd). Final Fantasy, for me, is like Naruto, except instead of only hearing that rabid, foaming fanaticism largely in one location, I hear it everywhere.
And as for Fullmetal Alchemist, I really enjoyed the series. It could probably find a comfy spot on some all-time 25 favorites list or something. But hearing about it non-stop has become tiresome, and I'd really enjoy taking a break from it to let it regain some of its shine and luster. Though right now, that's a rather difficult thing to accomplish. And the elitist fanboys that like to browbeat fans of the anime with "how great" the manga is and "how dull and inferior" we are for liking the anime are just sickeningly obnoxious. Guys, you realize you're only making me want to read the manga LESS, right? So shut up. To each their own, and each incarnation has its own pros and cons; there's no need to be a dick about it.

Every show/video game that get too much attention irritates me, especially when I haven't tried them. A long time ago my friend were always raving about Cowboy Bebop and I was the series detractor. Well, until I started watching it, that is.
Also, I tend to get jealous over the popularity of some ("Come on, I can do better").

I don't mind hearing about all of those shows in conversations, or even conventions, as long as it's in the form of direct conversation, whether it's text via IM or verbally. What does kind of annoy me is the amount that they're discussed on the forums across the internet. I generally use the internet boards to gain some knowledge about the topic at hand, and not to just talk about my favorite shows over and over again. For that reason, it's quite annoying to hear the same things about the same shows everytime. But luckily it's the internet afterall, if you dont like it, just skip it

Personally, no, I'm not sick of hearing about them at all. Because everybody likes different things and we all have our own unique tastes but we can't expect everyone to agree with them. If everyone agreed with you that Naruto was over-rated or whatever, then the world would be a boring place because there would be no variety in opinion. I used to refuse to watch Naruto simply because many of the fans were annoying, but I decided to cave in and checked it out of curiosity and you know what? I love the show. Sure, it's not the greatest anime ever and it's a bit cliched, but it's a fun little series that's entertaining to watch when you come home from a long tiring day and you just want to turn your brain off for a few hours to watch some bishounens kick each others asses. I originally didn't want to have anything to do with Inuyasha and FMA either because of their popularity, but I watched them too and I love them both. To me it doesn't matter how popular an anime is. If I like it, I'm going to watch it, no matter how popular it is or if other people agree with my opinions.
And as long as people are actually liking anime, who really cares? I swear anime fans can be the most hypocritical people at times. They bitch and moan constantly about how anime isn't popular and how everyone makes fun of them for liking it, but then whenever an anime does become popular, they bitch and moan about how "over-rated" it is just because they have different opinions than the masses. If you don't like hearing about the shows, don't go to cons or avoid reading topics about it on the Internet. If you're really so tired of your friends because they have different opinions than you, then get yourself some new friends (aka clone yourself so everyone can agree with you about what's over-rated and what's not). Is it really this hard to be an anime fan?

It's the nature of the beast, so to speak, to get carried away with what's popular at the moment. Take a look at the '80s for example - dressing like Madonna, Michael Jackson or Billy Idol, Rubic's Cube, Pac Man and Star Wars (One kid at my High School got the crap beaten out of him because he saw the midnight showing of Jedi then came to school and wouldn't stop talking about it).
While we have the Bleach-tards and Naruto-tards of today, I'm sure there were (Sailor) Moon-tards as well.
When "We" find something that we like, we do focus on it so much that it annoys others who do not share our obsession. Which is why ANN users get pissed at those newbies (and not so newbies) who scream "I want a second/third/new season of XXXX"
I have tried to watch Naruto and I found him to be an annoying little snot but if "you" like him, that's cool. Just respect the fact that I don't and we will get along fine.

I do not these topics at all because personally, I don't know ANYTHING about them. I would like to try and read the mangas, but I'm not willing to put money down for series that run about the same length as One Piece unless they're in the $1 dollar section. I do wish that these topics were rather lumped into one thread like our beloved 73 page Haruhi thread, we'd probably save a lot of space.
Nagisa, I feel sorry for you. I don't see or hear anybody talking about Naruto at my school.
LydiaDianne, wasn't it Narutards?
