Wow, is this one of those pieces that's designed to account for the perspective seen from that viewpoint? Either way, it's very impressive.
Star Wars is that sort of thing that seems to be unexpectedly popular in Japan. Eiichiro Oda is a huge fan of the movies, for instance, and collects merchandise. |

Star Wars was influenced by samurai, and sword use in the age of guns |

I wonder if Disney is getting a royalty check for these. I hope not (that is a direct slam on Disney being such an intellectual proponent advocate. Heck, I think by now, both the trademark and copyright of their rodent should be in public domain).

They don't seem to be quite as strict on Star Wars and Marvel Comics as their in-house stuff and Pixar stuff. Funko started making merchandise of Marvel characters long before any Disney characters, for instance, and random small companies seem to be able to make Star Wars and Marvel stuff, whereas I only see Disney products come out of companies with a proven track record of success.
If Disney is anything like Nintendo (and I think they have much in common), it's because they're very protective of their brand image. LucasFilm and Marvel are nothing like that image, so they'd thus be more permissive. Nevertheless, their acquisition by Disney is enough for some small companies to not even try. |

Disney likely paid for the advertisement. |

Japan's the number 2 market for Star Wars outside of the US. Box office grosses consistently show this. Also, the 2008 animated series reached the mainstream bestselling charts on both DVD and BD on Oricon, as well as Amazon. |
