I think this is what "getting old" feels like...
Most of my Japanese friends are in the 28-32 age range like myself, and a number of casual discussions gave me the strong impression that manga/anime like Dragonball were their Ninja Turtles (1987 series) or Power Rangers, and Gundam was like their Star Wars (not that they hadn't seen THAT as well)...
I guess people age, society moves on, the next big thing for kids comes along, and we start to feel like dinosaurs...

Wait, do they mean the original or any gundam at all? Since the opening paragraph makes it sound like the poll was about just the original but some of the respondents talk about it airing on tv more recently (or, does the original series really re-air on tv even though it's almost 40 years old now?).

Work that narrative. Yeah though nowadays most people that would watch anime either seem to watch the more mainstream accessible stuff like One Piece and the day time standards or late night visual and light novel adaptations. It doesn't feel like Japan really appreciates the classics much anymore and half the time I swear today's producers seem to either outright resent them or want to try to sabotage their reputation somehow by making garbage shows like Aldnoah.Zero to try to "supersede" them.

Understandable. I'm 29 and I haven't seen every Gundam series out there. I mean, there's a lot of them.

Hmm I too am curious about the sample size and if they mean "original series" or all of the entry's of the franchise... Because I love Gundam and have watched at least 7-8 difference ones, but I still have yet to see the original. lol

Good question, the answer "Since my father liked Gundam, we watched it together." certainly sounds like they may of watched a rerun of the original, but then it could of meant they just showed them whatever was the newest one at the time..

How many were polled? Is this one of those 100 people polls?

I'd be curious to see whether or not the numbers change significantly if you include any Gundam, not just the original TV series.

Yup. Not surprised. I wonder how many folks in college right now read the original Yugioh manga...if a poll hasn't been made already.

I think it's funny some of them commented that they watched it with their fathers... I'm only 21, in their age group, and that makes me feel old. I was 16 when I first watched Gundam and I've been hooked ever since.
Either way, I think they're missing out, but I guess it doesn't happen often young adults/teenagers watch shows that are older than themselves (at least I think we're talking about the old school Gundam shows here).

Considering that most college students there are planning to train in 60 hour a week jobs I'm more amazed they would have time for television, only 68% is actually a surprise.

This is why everything needs to be on the internet so people can watch the classics

32% is HUGE if this mean just the original series! Most of the people polled weren't even alive when it came out. Could you think of any piece of media, that isn't required to be consume in school, where 32% of the college student have watched/read it in america/europe? I doubt 32% of people have fully read the bible even in very religious area.

It asked if they'd seen 'any' of it, not the entire series.
That being said I believe it was just about 0079 and in that case, I'd actually agree 32% is a high number. I'm about ten years older than these kids, and I definitely haven't seen a bunch of American tv shows and cartoons that aired in 1979.
