Considering ANN only reports on MC charts weekly, this has to be taken with a grain of salt.
The one fact is it outsold the Xbox One's total sales in JP.

Great numbers!
I'm sure it will sell a lot more when Splatoon 2 comes out

Xbox One is still below 150k right?
Otherwise, congrats Ninty.

A disaster for sure, remember Nintendo is not marketing it so much as a handheld you can plug into the TV but as a console. Also, it's defective in many cases, there are YT videos showcasing the defects and some make you wonder if Nintendo should've delayed this instead of releasing a $300 open beta test of the Switch.

Japan has really lowered in importance when it comes to console video game consumption. The Switch's reported record-breaking opening week sales numbers in Europe are far more important to the modern video game industry than how it sells in Japan.

That's nice to see. Hoping to get one myself.

Hardly. It's doing just fine, plus they're raking in all the BOTW sales on top of it all. As far as I'm aware, anytime a new system comes out there tends to be bugs a bit at first. Xbox 360 and PS4 had problems too when they first came out. It will be fixed in time.

Yeah the Gamecube, Wii, & WiiU had problems that that were never fixed so you could forgive people if they're a bit jaded on that notion.

I think it's worth considering that the Switch hasn't been launched during Holidays. For it to be in March, I think it's doing OK. And hey, every console nowadays has problems during launch and the Switch sure has some. I think it should've been delayed as well, but what I got is actually much better than I expected.

Also remember that Youtubers reporting the issues are still a fraction of all who own the console and the problems themselves aren't happening to everyone. I have yet to personally run into any difficulties that people have been reporting. It's not a disaster, however were there questionable choices made... most definitely.
Its now up to Nintendo Support and how they approach the complaints that have been plaguing their customers.

Japan matters when it comes to Japanese games as they will always be the primary market given they make them. If you play American games, then it's a valid statement I suppose.
I'm waiting for Splatoon 2 to see what sales in Japan are like. Zelda isn't much of a system seller in Japan so the system essentially launched with nothing there. Splatoon is definitely the bigger IP.

It's selling well everywhere.
I know I can't get my hands on one in my area. Seems it sold out within minutes as soon as it hit the stores. Probably the shady people who want to grab them all and up the price on ebay. Not gonna play those games.

Actually, it's the fastest selling Nintendo console EVER internationally and overall, and is on par with the PS4 in Japanese sales. Not really a failure...

A disaster? in which world? is already announced as the biggest launch ever for a Nintendo console in North America and Europe, and wasn't even launched during holiday, in the UK sold double than WiiU and the japanese sales were great too, is selling really well.
Also, Nintendo isn't marketing as a "handheld" because it's not, it's a hybrid home console that can be play in TV or in the go as a handheld and Nintendo did a great marketing with the Switch.
And you're acting like a very few youtubers having problems means that everybody has when this isn't true.

Depends on if those numbers stay up. This is exactly what Nintendo needed to worry about. They wanted to get the portable market, but instead they're doing home numbers. Switch has a very unique set of problems: It's too weak to be a home console and the price is way too high to be a handheld. Given the current state of the Japanese console market, they're gonna have to find a way to meet in the middle.

Fast selling during launch day doesnt guaranteed it will totally sell well. People buying on launch day because of hype anyway.
See how Wii U did. It also sold well during launch day but total sold number is a bit sad. Give it a year or two to see Switch is good or bad.
