The season they skipped was non-canon time filler. They did that so they could make the gap between the sub and dub smaller to better time the English TCG releases.
Bushiroad was far worse with Buddyfight's dub. They cancelled it midway through season 2 and revived it at the start of season 4. Unlike Vanguard, what they skipped over wasn't filler. I guess viewers were just expected to watch the subtitled version. Also unlike Vanguard, Buddyfight's dub was true same day Sub/Dub drop, so there was no gap ...
