So what is the compilation? A recap they mean?

I think the word recap is generally used for a "recap episode" where there is a summary of lots of events in a short time. OVAs and Films are called "compilation films/OVAs" as they present a compilation of what was in the series but cut to the length of a film.

Yes.... They are essentially the same thing.
