You meant Cutty, not Chokkirine. Chokkirine is the final lady that still remains. Cutty was the one who was a general fan.

I have to agree that this second quarter of Kimi to Idol Precure was weaker than its first quarter. I think the biggest problem I'm having right now is the clash between Purirun's and Meroron's personalities and their Cure counterparts, Zukyoon and Kiss. In fairy form, Purirun is always positive and hyped up to see the other idols shine, while Meroron never stops fussing over Purirun and uses every opportunity she gets to one-up Uta. But as Cures, they have this mysterious aura of maturity that feels out of place to me.

It's not bad per se, and now that I write down my thoughts, I realize that this is probably done on purpose, but I think the clash is just too much. Yes, characters always change a bit when transforming into a Precure; the girls get more courageous and whatnot. That's pretty much the point of the whole show ("transform into the person of your dreams and stand up against what scares you" or something along those lines). But with Zukyoon and Kiss, I get the feeling they are totally disconnected from their fairy personalities. And that is something I feel like doesn't work that well.

The only other Precure entry featuring fairies I've seen so far is Yes! Precure 5 (and GoGo), and I feel like those worked really well. Yes, I wasn't the biggest fan of the whole romantic subplot that came along with that, but it works. Coco and Nuts kept their personalities between fairy and human form, and Milky Rose made her personality even stronger. It's a bit hard for me to explain, but I just feel like something is missing with Zukyoon and Kiss, and they feel overly mature in comparison to the other idol Cures as well as their fairy forms.

Also, the thing that probably disappoints me the most so far is the use of music. Or rather, lack thereof. When I saw the announcement for an idol Precure series, I was looking forward to lots of music. Sure, I knew we wouldn't get a new song every week; that's not something a series that's running for a year can keep up with. But the lack of new songs has been... a bit astounding. By now we have one opening and two endings, so far so normal for a Precure series. We also have the three solo finishers as well as the duo finisher for Zukyoon and Kiss. But the fact that we didn't even get a new finisher and instead got a reuse of the ending was pretty disappointing.

Meanwhile Princession Orchestra, another long-running mahou shoujo show airing right now that makes use of a musical theme, already has 12 different songs across 16 episodes (including OP and EDs). That's a lot more songs for fewer episodes and more in line with what I was expecting to see from an idol-themed Precure season. Hopefully they can pick up a bit in the second half, and judging from how past Precure seasons behaved, I'd say there is a decent chance to at least get one or two more songs.

And as always, the autolinking feature on ANN articles is perfect, linking the anime entry for NANA. Well, at least it's music-themed.

For all of Rebecca's criticisms she did give the show a nice score. I am glad that despite her frustrations with the show (Which I also share too, but I am enjoying myself still) she still likes it at least a little.

Also I hope this repeats what Wonderful did last year and have one of the most epic and awesome second half of the series ever. Not holding my breath though.

Series composer Kato Yoichi recently talked about early concept ideas he had for the series, like how You and Idol was going to be much more focused on the idol aspect with less fighting and that Uta was first going to meet an idol precure before becoming one (akin to Mana meeting Makoto or Megumi meeting Hime) and be entranced by her performance. And it might be a case of the grass looking greener on the other side, but it all sounded more compelling to me than what we've gotten, which I still think mostly rounds out to a very bog-standard season. I know some people are still burned on Wonderful making a conscious effort to craft a story around not fighting, but I think it would have helped You and Idol find a firmer foundation for itself

I do like that Kokoro's father continues to be an important part of her characterization, Nana's focus on empathy is displayed in subtler ways that still get that across to the audience, Meroron is a fun mess (her and Yuki bringing an amount of friction Precure has been missing for a while), the generals allowing for a clear momentum to the story through their changing attitudes towards their eventual oshis, and there is at least an attempt to create Precure-infused idol stories with stuff like Uta having to figure out her signature. But that last one also is a bit of a downside for me, because I really don't think those kinds of stories should be limited to Uta, but that would require abandoning the track that they aren't really idols that Kato chose to take

One opinion of this season that I've had since the first cour is that the more pieces were put into place, the more I found myself enjoying it. Using an example from the first 12 episodes, I thought the show was overall consistently more enjoyable once Kokoro joined. The thing is back then, I kind of assumed that Meroron would be the final major piece, but episode 17 definitely disproved that. I do think the season can easily screw up and my opinion can definitely turn easily depending on how it does certain plot elements, but I'm having way too much fun as of right now, especially with the recent (admittedly arguably minor) revelation from the recent Kokoro episode.
I can see why people don't like Meroron but I really love how she's antagonizing the other Cures and throwing the group dynamic into chaos. It's like Yuki from last season except way worse (better). Unlike Yuki who spoiler[was antagonistic towards Iroha and Komugi for mostly understandable reasons even if the show did criticize her for being too controlling ], Meroron is spoiler[unambiguously selfish. While she does prioritize Purirun, she's perfectly willing to prioritize her own wishes over those of people not named Purirun, and the fact that even Purirun is having a hard time getting Meroron to agree to being in the same group as the others officially is amusing. ]She's definitely my favorite Cure in the season even if she's very morally flawed as a character. She did a lot of things wrong, and that's kind of the point the way I see it. spoiler[I'll miss Meroron physically abusing Uta in the morning once she gets along with the rest of the group. Well, presumably she'll stop...]
