I've been loving City so far. It's not quite as zany/over-the-top in its gags as Nichijou's anime adaptation was, but it does have a very similar sense of humour and is just as beautifully animated, plus it has a bit more of an actual story (at least regarding Matsuri and Ecchan's friendship and Ecchan moving away soon). It's also impressive how well the anime manages to preserve the original manga's vibrant colour palette.

This has to be one of more unique-looking KyoAni productions I've seen in quite awhile, and they still got the comedic chops. There are too many skits to list that were hilarious, but special mention towards Wako who's definitely rising up to be amusingly hilarious.

I especially liked her in the 3rd episode where she sabotages Niikura and Midori during that treasure hunt. And then there's that ninja shoes near the river bank scene where she attempts to walk on water with those shoes and promptly sinks and kept going. Laughing

I really like this show, but only in half-episode doses at a time. I love the way it looks, the way it moves, the goofy characters, the gorgeous background details, and even the humor, for the most part. But by the mid-mark, I'm ready to go watch something else. So I do. And when I come back a day or so later, I enjoy the second half as much as the first half.

I don't know what it's doing that is causing that reaction, but my solution works for me and I'm fine with that.

The visuals on this show have been something else. Love them.
I enjoyed the first two episodes enough, but the third really had me laughing. Looking forward to more Smile

Trash tier that exist only for a laugh and nothing more. Dont expect a compelling story or anything memorable from this.

Wako has her own apartment and Nagumo constantly owes rent... are they just neighbors who happen to sleep in Niikura's apartment? Because I didn't think they were living together since the first episode where Nagumo kept stealing Niikura's food.

Wako to me is Azumanga's Osaka combined with Bugs Bunny, that's the only way I can explain her. She's a genius ditz trickster god prone to pratfalls. Or something. She either made her own god in the first episode or faked it and I'm not sure there's a difference.

Anyway, unlike Nichijou which is the definition of random, City is more scenario driven with connections being disclosed later or foreshadowed earlier.

"That guy knows that girl who's related to that girl who's sister works him? Small world."
No, small city.

Seems a bit harsh. I will say watching this just made me wish we got more Nichijo instead though since I'm more partial to those character than CITY's

So far, I'm not finding City as funny as Nichijou, probably because Taichi Ishidate doesn't have the same mastery of comedic timing as Tatsuya Ishihara, but each episode has had at least one moment that really cracked me up, like the takoyaki flashback in episode 3.

Nichijou was funny. This is silly and sometimes annoying. The only character I care about so far is the sweet klutz who everyone is falling in love with as they take a violent arrow to the heart. But I'll keep watching because I love this style of animation. Maybe it will get better.

There is a lot worse airing this season than City. Plus most anime don't even have a tenth of the charm that Arawi's works have.

With the ways how some segments are interconnected, I was hoping this series will go along lines of the one of the infamous Simpsons' episodes "22 Short Films About Springfield," and that is cool! Of course this week's episode did leave in a cliffhanger so we'll have to see how it will concludes.

Well, this concluded in probably one of the most creatively animated episode KyoAni has ever done up to this point. It is such a feast for the eyes to see how they tackle a bajillion subplots and play it all simultaneously. Shocked

I can't remember the last time I was this enamored by their craft. It's probably around Sound! Euphonium or Violet Evergarden.

I love City but I can easily how it would infuriate people who just want an easy to follow series of gags. For example, both City and Nichijou did the gag on "revealing the tricks of a magician" but it was only intended to be funny in Nichijou... even if we had to work the trick backwards in our heads to figure out what was supposed to happen.

In City, it was a contest. The magician had to be bested and we had to work out how he would have been beaten trick by trick. Or not because his doves beat him first by showing the trick even before it was performed. Or not because that wasn't the contest.

Can we agree that Wacko... I'm done calling her Wako.... works by way of cartoon physics yet or do we still want to pretend she's still normal? I love the moment she was a tiny figure climbing up the outside of the tower.... even though she wasn't there on its first fly by.

"Well... that means they added her model later or late or something."

Sure, as if that's the issue.

God, I'd been eagerly anticipating this being adapted and the masterminds at Kyoani did it justice. In the manga, we see all of these things leading up to the big party as individual chapters culminating in several double page splashes of "where's Waldo" style art, the absolute maniac that is Keichi Arawi having little gags happening in each part of the collage over the course of those several pages.

That volume of the manga is a masterpiece and KyoAni didn't disappoint.
