They put in plot stuff for the remakes which was why everyone was confused whenever it was brought up. Seriously, they need to stop with the FF gachas. And while they're at it, knock it off with the spinoffs and attempts to make expanded universes, they're always complete goop.

I got blasted when I said it before, but that new Dissidia one is next.
Square has a VERY itchy trigger finger with these mobile/live service games, in regards to taking them offline the moment it's even looking in the wind like their financials aren't over-performing. It's one of THE most unsustainable business models in the industry, IMO.
The handful of people I know that were playing FF7 EC had noticed several events ago that the realease timing (in addition to its quality) had a marked slowdown/downscaling to it, and there's a high likelihood their dev team knew that this was going to be the ultimate direction the game was headed.
What's scummy is, that was something we'd noticed several events ago, and they kept going with no EoS announcement this whole time hoping to milk payments with players none the wiser.
As much as Persona 5X has been a pretty awesome live service game, their Asian version that's a year ahead in content to the Global version started similarly half-assing their new events with text boxes instead of animated scenes, and a lack of voices for the characters - it's a bad sign that the dev team's budget has been cut, and while it's been a pretty stellar Persona experience, it gives a pretty chilling vibe that the quality of the game may be winding down in the future.
Be very weary the next time you think about starting a Square live service game, they along with Bandai are extra-shitty when it comes to their maintaining and compensation of players. Final Fantasy 7 is one of Square's larger series and even FF7 EC having a PC client didn't save it.

There's a lot of good mobile/gacha games, some of which are arguably better than any console or PC game in years like Genshin Impact and Blue Archive. The issue is most of them in cases like this rely on nostalgia for established IPs; or in this case, a weird hybrid since it's based on the 7 Remake and not the original. I find those tend to last the shortest and have the least amount of effort put into them since they do coast on nostalgia.
I never played this, or First Soldier. Frankly the Remake is of no interest to me and it's a shame if people had to play those to enjoy the story of the remake. In general I feel it's obvuous when a game actually has a purpose and wants to be something more than a cashcgrab tie-in...
