They put in plot stuff for the remakes which was why everyone was confused whenever it was brought up. Seriously, they need to stop with the FF gachas. And while they're at it, knock it off with the spinoffs and attempts to make expanded universes, they're always complete goop.

I got blasted when I said it before, but that new Dissidia one is next.

Square has a VERY itchy trigger finger with these mobile/live service games, in regards to taking them offline the moment it's even looking in the wind like their financials aren't over-performing. It's one of THE most unsustainable business models in the industry, IMO.

The handful of people I know that were playing FF7 EC had noticed several events ago that the realease timing (in addition to its quality) had a marked slowdown/downscaling to it, and there's a high likelihood their dev team knew that this was going to be the ultimate direction the game was headed.

What's scummy is, that was something we'd noticed several events ago, and they kept going with no EoS announcement this whole time hoping to milk payments with players none the wiser.

As much as Persona 5X has been a pretty awesome live service game, their Asian version that's a year ahead in content to the Global version started similarly half-assing their new events with text boxes instead of animated scenes, and a lack of voices for the characters - it's a bad sign that the dev team's budget has been cut, and while it's been a pretty stellar Persona experience, it gives a pretty chilling vibe that the quality of the game may be winding down in the future.

Be very weary the next time you think about starting a Square live service game, they along with Bandai are extra-shitty when it comes to their maintaining and compensation of players. Final Fantasy 7 is one of Square's larger series and even FF7 EC having a PC client didn't save it.

There's a lot of good mobile/gacha games, some of which are arguably better than any console or PC game in years like Genshin Impact and Blue Archive. The issue is most of them in cases like this rely on nostalgia for established IPs; or in this case, a weird hybrid since it's based on the 7 Remake and not the original. I find those tend to last the shortest and have the least amount of effort put into them since they do coast on nostalgia.

I never played this, or First Soldier. Frankly the Remake is of no interest to me and it's a shame if people had to play those to enjoy the story of the remake. In general I feel it's obvuous when a game actually has a purpose and wants to be something more than a cashcgrab tie-in...

When you need money and good amounts of luck to get most out of these experiences specifically the parts that are single player oriented with the risk of power creep at play they’re not in fact better.

Yeah, that's an opinion I always raise an eyebrow at. I've tried all of the "good" mobile games, and I can only concede that they're good relative to other mobile games. But compared to the rest of gaming? Eh. They all have a very disposable quality to them, they all have the same sort of water-treading narratives that go nowhere fast, and they all have the same obfuscating design that's oriented entirely around getting players to waste as much time as possible.

"Premature" closures like EC's is lamentable, but ultimately it was a very disposable game from its inception, designed to do no more than capitalize on the lingering nostalgia so many people still have for FF7 and siphon off as much money from them as possible. I'm sorry for any players go got really invested in Ever Crisis, or any other game like it, but at the end of the day these mobile games are all very transient experiences. None of them are intended to last.

You can literally play all of Genshin Impact and other Mihoyo's game's stories without paying a single penny. Seems like a far better deal than $80 + DLC for 'console games' to me

Story content maybe what about the post game content?

Even then the “welfare units” these games give you tend to not be all that better than the 5 stars. Luocha in Star Rail is my most used healer who’s gotten me through more of the story content than Natasha one of said welfare units.

And keep in mind in order to make your units as strong as they can or rather need to be you have to spend money or stock up a shit ton of whatever passes for these other game’s version of the silver and golden companion tickets not only to pull on a character (unless you wait to get them for free) but then spend more money or tickets on their dupes as those unlock extra abilities or perks…..some of which of which should’ve been available by default like removing a debuff. On top of character’s exclusive equip which also requires pulling for the dupes on to strengthen those too.

And this is without mentioning recycling of environments and other things.

So with all the above in mind the value isn’t better.

The FF7 content mill is running dry. They'll have to make a new one for the third remake.
