I admit, I was NOT expecting to like this when I first watched it. I initially checked it out because it was being praised so much during the preview guide, and now I'm three episodes in and I'm dying to see what happens next! This series makes me feel like a kid again in the best way. I dropped Grow Up Show in favor of this, and man did that prove to be a good decision. I do agree that Teshima is way too uptight for her own good, and her behavior towards Yasumi in episode 1, while understandable that she'd be mad at a student reading comics during class, just comes off as too stern. Like, why go so far as to take a student's property and give it back to the store? I'm with Rebecca in that Teshima feels like one of those overly strict teachers who are the bane of every neurodivergent child's existence and make no attempt to understand them, though I do appreciate the anime at least tries to humanize her and give her some depth.
Actually, question: Are teachers in Japan actually allowed to flat-out monitor their students even when they're not in school? I know Japanese schools have stricter rules for students than Americans do and how, with kids being in uniform, they risk bringing negative attention to their school if they're caught doing crimes, but Yasumi hasn't done anything like that. All Yasumi did was take a trip to the city by herself on the weekend, and she wasn't in uniform. Plus, why would Teshima take it upon herself to personally escort one of her students back home during the weekend and continue to lecture her on how she spends her time outside of school? I'm pretty sure that's not in her job description. I honestly found the whole thing of Teshima trying to regulate Yasumi's life even off school premises to be confusing and a little creepy. |

I knew the second I saw the Teacher I was going to dislike her. She is way too strict and controlling. I mean I understand telling a student not to read in class but what right does she have to not only confiscate the manga but try to take it back to the shop? That's going from being strict to tyrannical!

I get what you (Bolts) mean by wanting to immediately go work on the myriad of projects that one might be “working on” or are “in the process.” Shows like this are reminders of how much fun the creative process can be.
I really really really (x100) how much of a real, flawed person Teshima is. And that she started out that way. She wasn’t some babe in the woods whose gentle soul got crushed by the manga world - she had a terrible time taking criticism, she was defensive, and honestly her personality was probably much more geared towards dojin than being a professional. I’m looking forward to seeing more of her story - I hate to say it but I see a lot of myself in her. Although I’d like to think I’m a generally happier person…. Having had my own experience with rejection, I get the “burn the place down” fantasy. There’s a lot of dysfunction on parade here, even if say Yasumi found a positive way to deal with being socially awkward, I like the characters that are relatable on that level too. I’m following 5 or 6 shows this season but this is the one my week revolves around |

I really liked the first episode, but 2 and 3 a lot less, mostly because I ultimately don't care about the teacher and her backstory is taking larger and larger portion of the episodes, almost like she's the real main character.
It also really suffer from being so close to Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, but, aside from the main character, I like the character a lot more in that one. |

There's nothing more painful than becoming intimately aware of your own failings as a creative, that you can put your heart and soul into something and it's still not good enough to , also as someone who recently went through like 5 mental breaks in a row despite the love and support of my family, if I had secretly found out that they were worried about what I was doing with myself that would have been a bit too much for me, haha....
Still, your words can reach someone, it can be the voice they've desperately needed this entire time, be it a student from far in the future or your peers. I'm excited to see our duo protags continue their journey of learning the pains of creating/relearning the joy of getting your heart out there. |

I'm pretty sure Rei is the main character as much as Yasumi is, if not more so. Like, show's name is directly attached to her, at least so far. So I expect it to be as much about her healing story, as it will likely also be "cute girls drawing amateur manga in their school club". Also I'm not sure what do you mean by Eizouken comparison, these two shows clearly go for a very different things. |

I think I like this show more because it has a focus of a disillusioned adult rediscovering her passion along with a younger generation in the process of discovering hers.
