I'm currently buying the original TOKYOPOP editions of Mahoromatic and Lament of the Lamb, as I've wanted to read them since I first saw them in bookstores as an 8th grader in 2006.

I got the TOKYOPOP editions of Pita Ten and DearS last year, all in excellent condition. It's very nostalgic, and I sometimes still wonder what went wrong with TOKYOPOP.

Still, it would be nice if these got a new edition. For example, Seven Seas started republishing Rozen Maiden last year, in an edition I absolutely love.

Does anyone know if you can suggest licensing titles to the current big publishers such as Yen Press or Seven Seas? I don't want to ask Viz, because I don't like the way they translate the sound effects into ugly font. Laughing

Seven Seas has a monthly survey on their site (gomanga.com) that allows you to make suggestions.

The entry for Geniearth mistakenly has the summary for Cocoon.

Geniearth's review by Erica seems to have the wrong star count. Considering the review is not very positive, I'm not sure 4/5 seems correct.

I also think Bolts giving Woebegone 1 star is a bit rough since the review seems more like 2 or so stars but that's just a personal thing as a fan of the series (I don't think the series is amazing but it's good, light fun).

"A Timid Lady Was Turned into an Ugly Cat, but on the Verge of Fainting Is Picked Up by the Most Fearsome Military Duke"

So what's it about?

I think she gets banished from her party and takes revenge by reincarnating as a villainess.

Does this new edition of Mars have the old translation? I'm tempted, but having experienced some of those janky Tokyopop translations before, I'd rather skip this if the translation hasn't been fixed. I still shudder when I think of their old Pet Shop of Horrors translation.

Nope, it's a brand-new translation, and much better than the old Tokyopop one.

"The Elf will not be Shelved" is certainly a choice for a title when the original is "Suterare Elf-san wa Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyokute Kawaii" which translates to something like: "The Abandoned Elf is the Strongest and Cutest in the World"

Princess Da Huang sounds interesting =)

The Woebegone Wonder Girl Wants to be Wicked

Quote:
This is funny since the sister she is compared to is known for being a homewrecker with a terrible personality. At least in other stories where there's favoritism, there's at least some kind of narrative excuse for it, like maybe one sister is more beautiful than the other or they were able to snag a powerful husband. This doesn't make any sense outside of just some familial spite, and even when it's very forced.

It is the one of the oldest stories in the world. Wife dies, Father moves in and marries his Mistress and their daughter. Out with the old and in with the new. The father had a family on the side, so he is not going to be winning any Husband or Father of the Year award. Narrative excuse, father has to make nice with his new wife (former mistress). Their daughter takes precedence over his dead wife's daughter. They are not living in our modern age where there is a pretense at treating the children of blended families fairly and equally. Even today you can hear stories of children being treated unfairly or criminally because of such situations.
