Cost. Everything comes down to money let face it. While I really like Monster (well I mean love) its definitely not your typical anime. It's more geared towards a FX/SHOWTIME/HBO audience then your general anime fan. Also seeing as how Master Keaton didn't do all that great here in the US some companies don't want to take the risk. Also lets not forget that if the live action movie does get made we'll probably see the anime come stateside, but that is a big if.

Yeah pretty much that what it comes down to, when companies license a show like FMA/Naruto/Bleach they know there is audience for the shows that will buy dvds. Will Monster it's a bit hard to expand seeing as how it couldn't really air on [as] hell it would be perfect fit on HBO.

The manga is licensed. I've been reading it and it's pretty good. But it would be nice if American anime/manga companies brought over more mature adult (not porn) titles. Of course anime/manga would have to become more popular for that to happen. Oh wait, they'd actually have to license that sort of stuff first! So, don't hold your breath.

I too am extremely disappointed that I can't own a domestic version of one of my absolute favorite shows. I mean not only does it have a fantastic masterful storyline and excellent characters, it's animated by my favorite studio, Madhouse, to seal the deal. As for Master Keaton I bought that in the last Geneon sale and while it was good it didn't have the same level of story power being purely episodic. I think Monster would do much better if they just took a chance and liscensed it.

Monster has some hurdles to make it here. It's a long series, its primary audience is adults, and it can't sell toys or costumes. Nobody wants a "Dr. Tenma Gray Overcoat" or "Monster Storybook Collection (unsuitable for minors)".
Despite these hurdles, France, Spain, and other countries have licensed it. Why do they have it while we don't?

I honestly think if Monster was ever made into a live-action series, it would be an HBO hit along the lines of The Sopranos.
Cost is probably the right answer why it's not licensed. Too many episodes... if it was a typical 13 or 26 episode series, I don't think it would be a problem.
Up to episode #67 right now... can't wait to watch the rest!

We don't allow these sort of threads here at ANN for a couple reasons, but the biggest one is that the answer is obvious: it hasn't been licensed because no American company has licensed it. Obvious? Absolutely. However, the truth is that every reason people are going to post is complete speculation.
We don't allow threads that discuss whether something is going to be licensed, why it hasn't been licensed yet, or who will license it; they're all rumor mills, and we don't need that here. Besides, a number of answers were given by others, almost any of which is enough to prevent a show from being licensed on its own.
