Who: Anime Nebraskon
What: A fun, affordable convention in a convenient central location, celebrating anime, manga, and various related fandoms. When: November 16th-18th 2007 Where: University of Nebraska-Lincoln Student Union, Lincoln, NE Website: http://animenebraskon.com/ Cost: $30 3-Day Preregistration $35 At-door 3-day pass $15 Friday only $20 Saturday only $15 Sunday only $15 Child's Badge Features: All the standard con events, including anime viewings, AMV contest, cosplay competition, dealers' room, artists' alley, karoke, art auction, a dance, autograph signings with our guests (though with this being a small con, you'll likely have chances to chat with them without waiting over an hour in line Other Nebraskon events we have to offer: * A panel on 4chan: the legend, the mystery, the anonymous Internet hate machine. Epic LULZ to be had here. (not sponsored or endorsed by the founder/staff of 4chan.org) * Fan panels on The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Sailor Moon, and more * Matt Greenfield of ADV Films talks about ADV's anime offerings, and if we're lucky, gives a hint of things to come. (Don't bet on it, though.) * Dating auction -- overcome that systemic otaku shyness the old-fashioned way! * Anime Idol -- think you can sing? Think you've got what it takes to satisfy our tough, trash-talking judges? * Tales of Con Horror: our guests give an education on what not to do at a con with these anecdotes of abominations from past conventions. * Ramen-eating contest -- no wandering girls seeking sunflowery samurai allowed * Occult and Mysticism in Anime: a discussion on some of the spiritual, mystical, and supernatural elements that recur in many anime and how they relate to Japanese culture and beliefs. This popular panel started at our convention, and the panelists have been invited to give their talk at several other well-known cons. *And many other panels with rants, ravings, and insights from some of our colorful personalities. See also the list below. Guests of Honor: Tiffany Grant: We're glad to have this renowned voice actress and scriptwriter who's worked on countless projects (Evangelion, Angelic Layer, Noir, Kurau Phantom Memory, & Azumanga Daioh, to name a few) making her 3rd consecutive Nebraskon appearance. Matt Greenfield: Making his first Nebraskon appearance, Greenfield is well-known as one of the founders of ADV and writer/producer/director for many releases including RahXephon, Gasaraki, Golden Boy, and Nadesico. Shannon & Richard Townsend: Also making their third Nebraskon appearance, this dynamic duo are jacks of many trades and masters of all, from drawing and writing the webcomic Otaku -no- Yen to offering books and instruction on anime/manga art styles to the uninitiated. Steven R Bennett IV: Making his second Anime Nebraskon appearance, this convention favorite has traveled and lived all over the world, including to Japan where he got an unprecedented chance to work in the animation of various classic series from the 1980s. He's worked in a number of fields since then, from odd jobs to starting manga publisher Studio Ironcat to touring the convention circuit with his own art. There's never a dull moment with Steve around, and his bottomless well of stories never fails to entertain. Kira Vincent-Davis: An acclaimed Texas-based voice actress gracing us with her presence for the first time, Kira has worked on numerous series such as AIR TV, Elfen Lied, Utawarerumono, Trinity Blood, Mushishi, and Super GALS. And as a special bonus: Meet me, ANN forum moderator Zalis116 in three dimensions and in real life! See the man behind the avatar who locksorz your threads! Learn my well-concealed real name! I will be running several panels and events, including some of but not necessarily all of the following: Fansubbing--an exaplanation, celebration, and strong cautionary talk on this widespread and controversial activity. Anime Name that Tune: I reach into my music collection to test players' knowledge and speed in recognizing anime openings and endings. Protip: make sure to brush up on those visual novel adaptations Guess the Anime: Think you're good at recognizing characters, art styles, and dialogue, and distinguishing between ADV and Bang Zoom subtitle fonts? Then test your knowledge in this supercharged screenshot-based competition. Anime Chat and Review: Sit down and kick back with me and some of your fellow congoers as we discuss, present, and review whatever anime come to mind, from the latest hits coming out on DVD and the fansub circuit to some obscure gems from years ago that you may have missed. So anyway, if you can make it, I hope to see some of you at the con -- while we're unfortunately not a 24-hour hotel-based booze-drenched party convention, our location and scheduling allow us to present this con at a cheaper price to you, the con-goer. And as a bonus, it lets the staff get some sleep so that we can be our fun and friendly selves. For 2008 though, we hope to move to one of downtown Lincoln's fine hotels so that we can be bigger, better, and more fun for all. |

If I lived near there I'd be happy to go since it sounds fun. Heck, I'd go just to see who the real Zalis really is. I'm betting on a cross between a gnome and orc.

And there will be an awesome selection of great vendors in the Dealer's Room, including myself and my store, Digital Attitude.

Ah! I love that guy! I met him at my first con not too long ago in a cel-painting panel.
Drat. Obviously, I am unable to go. I would have so much fun/actually be good at "Anime Name that Tune." And "Guess the Anime" doesn't sound too hard, though I'm not a master of art styles just yet. Grr to anyone who can go. |

As much as I look forward to this event each year I do not think I will be able to attend because I was not well-prepared for it. The costumes I want to wear are not finished and I did a horrible job at saving up for the dealer's room this year and those are absolute musts for me when it comes to conventions. I will be sure to try and be on the ball about it next year, though!
