Ok, so to my surprise a pencilboard came with my V4 Ergo Proxy. Which was a surprise because none of the others had one, not even the SPE box. Now it is not my first pencilboard or anything, far from it. But my receiving it today reminded my of a question I wanted to ask. What the heck do you all do with your pencilboards?
Me? They go right back into the case. It seems like the safest non cheese place to put it. Now some of you are probably saying, 'well he must hate pencilboards'. Well thats not true. In fact I love getting them. I find that the art on them is usually superior in style and design. And for the most part very durable. I just can't figure out a good way to either display them, or use them in some other constructive way. And I figured that maybe some of you might have some nifty ideas and/or share what you do with them. Also, just so this thread isn't sooo specific. Please feel free to rave about some of your favorite boards if you feel like it. Thanks |

My comments are the pretty well the same... Pencilboards are really nice but they don't go further than the DVD case in my household. I haven't come across too many though. I think I got 3 out of the 4 from the Haibane Renmei series and the same success ratio with Kamichu!. The Kamichu! ones are nice because the artwork is different than that on the DVD cover (I left them in the cases because of that). I have a faint suspicion that their artwork was taken from the Japanese DVD covers but they may not be.
...For some odd reason I haven't gotten any pencilboards with any of the R2 DVDs I've imported from Japan. Which is a touch surprising for me given my propensity to purchase first press and limited edition releases. |

Mine go back in the cases when possible too... although lately, I've been toying with the idea of getting a scrapbook/photo album to store them in a more accessible way... I just haven't found anything size appropriate yet.

Well, most of them go back in the case. I actually bought six Saiyuki pencilboards and I ended up using them as posters. They aren't quite strong enough for me to use them to write on but it was nice to give it a shot.

My pencilboards sit around collecting dust. I really like having the extra artwork and they're just fun to have in general, but I have absolutely no idea what to do with them.
I was actually thinking about the same thing and finding one that's the right size is really an issue. For now, I'm just going to go with a postcard box I've had sitting around-- it's fits them quite nicely. |

I like the reflective nature of the Geneon pencilboards. I thought volume one of Ergo also come with one?

All the ones I have go back into the DVD case (the three that came with Geneon's release of Kannazuki no Miko are very pretty).
I did at one point collect shitajiki (I have a small pile of Evangelion & Utena ones), primarily for the artwork, but they are not all that easy to display, so all the ones I have now are stored away in a trunk. |

I keep most of my pencilboards in my DVD cases. I really think that they're too nice to write on and I'd rather use them for display purposes than for writing, though I have some older ones that I purchased from a store that I occasionaly write on.

Hmn...I've always thought that pencilboards were for drawing. Like, a board with a pretty picture that you'd use as a hard surface to draw on, or something...I've never owned one, although I almost bought one or two on eBay years ago with gorgeous images from Sailor Moon, but decided that they'd be a pointless waste of money, since I don't and will never collect them. I suppose they're mostly for display purposes, anyhow...

Okay so I got a PM saying that they frame them, And you guys suggest scrapbooks/albums, posters, post card box /trunks, and doing the same thing I do. Which is back in the cases. I must say I like the album idea. I like the frame idea too, but it might get a little expensive, and I am having space issues as it is. With the box idea, the first thing I think of is all that empty space in my Haruhi box, so that is tempting as well. But an album seems like a stand-alone, space-conserving, semi-dedicated idea. Geting the right size will be the trick.
Good Ideas though. If you get anymore, don't hesitate to keep'em coming.
Well I got Vol.1 Ergo special edition, and it didn't come with one. Guess I lucked out(or didn't), sucks though because that one would be neat. I do like the reflectiveness of the one I got for V.4. Talking of boards I like though. Two series come immediately to mind. First, the ones that came with Infinite Ryvius. Say what you want about the series itself, but the pencilboards kick ass. One in each volume, so that is six total. The best way I can explain is they are like a movie poster, but a lot of you won't understand that either. I'll try. They are rigid plastic, with an image on one side, and with the same image only transposed on the other. The material goes from transparent to translucent. So that when you hold it to light the whole picture lights up bright. It looks really cool. I would love to put them on a window so they would get light, but there is no way to afix it without it looking like crap. The second, is the one that came with Requiem from the Darkness DigiPak(which has absolutely gorgeous complete packaging by the way, whoever designed that package I give two thumbs up, and a hug too). Anyway, it comes with a two sided board, each side with a beautiful picture of the cast(including my love Ogin I have more, but I will stop for now. Please feel free to talk about any that you like!!! |

I actually got a pencil board with volumes 3 and 4 of Ergo Proxy. It's weird how they put them on the outside of the case. Funny thing was I have so many pencil boards I was going to wiki the term to see what the heck they are supposed to be used for; I honestly had no clue. I usually just keep them in the cases, though there was a time I was displaying the R.O.D. TV pencil boards I got. Lack of space has since led me to take them down.

I really can't remember for certain which of the other Ergo DVDs came with pencil boards. They were in the similar style like the Trigun, and Black Heaven ones with their reflective look to them and were affixed to the front of the DVD case. I actually like the ones that came with Geneon's Texhnolyze with the 3D effect which reminded me of the Gundam Wing pencilboard. Geneon also does two sided pencilnoards like the ones that come with Chobits, Kanazuki no Miko, and the Ah My Goddess movie. The Herlock ones are supposed to interlock, but oddly enough the board's don't match up. Bandai also include pencilboards with their releases. The Kaze No Yojimbo and Witch Hunter Robin ones are transparent like the above mention Ryvius. S-cry-ed came out with a tiny playing card sized transparent card as well. I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting at the moment, but after years of collecting DVDs I've ended up with quite a collection of pencilboards.

Okay sorry for reviving this old thread, but I finally did what I was going to set out to do. So I figured it wouldn't make sense to make a new thread.
I went with the album type idea. Now I must say the most difficult part was finding the correct photo page size. I had guessed that a 5x7 two per page would be best. Boy did I have a hell of a time finding them. Now you can find these online from a myriad of office supply stores, from places everyone knows to some places that are only on the internet. Problem is, with office supplies most places only offer free shipping if you order more than $100. Well each pack of these would range from $4-$8, so I figured shipping wouldn't be to bad. Wrong! Every place charged between $7-$12 shipping. Sorry I am not paying that much for something they will ship in a 25 cent folder. So I went and looked around town to see if I could find the size I needed. Every night I would stop at a different office supply store, didn't have them. Then I went to hobby and craft stores, didn't have them. Then I went to photo shops and album centers! Didn't have them. Now we have 4 super Wal-Marts in or town, and none of them had them, except for one. The last one I went too. And guess what, they had the right size but the box they were kept in was empty #$@! It took three weeks for that store to get them back in stock. When I look back on it, $12 shipping seems like a bargin. Moral of the story is, that if you are even slightly thinking of doing something like this. And you happen to run across a pack of 5x7 archival safe fully transparent non-magnetic twin(one on top of the other) photo refill pages. Grab them like there hot. So now on to the pictures. These are uncompressed so I really only recommend for people with broadband.(If someone really wants to see the smaller files size let me know, but it might take a while for me to get around to it.) Also, not every one you see in the album is a pencilboard, some of them are liners and boxes that I was no longer using(but every thing did come from DVD purchases). Front Inner, and ROD ROD ROD, and Herlock Herlock, and Birdy Herlock, Galaxy Angel, and Ergo Galaxy Angel, Shinjuku, Haibane, and Ryvius Haibane, and Ryvius Ryvius, Haruhi, and GitS Haruhi, Mushi, and Parakiss Parakiss, and Please Teacher Please Teacher, Requiem from the Darkness, and Dreamers RftD, Dreamers, and Stellvia Stellvia Stellvia, and Stratos 4 Texhnolyze, and Stratos 4 Stratos 4, Saiunkoku, and Gunslinger Gunslinger, Mushi, and Witchblade Mushi, WitchBlade, Glass Fleet, and Ergo Glass Fleet, Ergo, and Hell Girl Hell Girl NHK, and Kiddy Grade Kiddy Grade Kiddy Grade Kiddy Grade Kiddy Grade Kiddy Grade Aquarion Age Ok, so go easy on me. This did end up taking a lot of time, as I had to do it in spurts. And I admittedly am not very creative(I love art, but don't have an artistic bone in my body). Anyway I am glad I finally put this together, now I have somewhere to put extra art and pencilboards that we sometimes get in DVD releases. And have easy access to them. |

I like it! It's weird though, it seemed like the boards were a lot smaller than I remembered. I'm guessing the Haruhi ones came in the LE?

They go right back in the box for me. They're nice, but I don't really have any strong desire to display them. I'm lazy.
