The latest Kid Trend Report from YTV is brimming with off-side references to "that cool Japanese stuff" including Dorama, J-Pop, Spirited Away, and the popularity of manga. All of those topics are the standard fare, but one topic raised in particular is definitely worth noting:
New Anime Alert A new series is looking to become the next North American anime hit. Witch Hunter Robin, already super popular in Japan, us coming to our shores next month via Cartoon Network. Not only will anime fans love it due to the action, great animation, and strong storylines, but this series is also likely to make it big with the Goth crowd due to the dark subject matter. They seem to be showing about the same level of interest as they did for .hack//SIGN throughout last year. But then again, we still have yet to see anything become of that one. Well, if you want to see it on Canadian airwaves, you should probably let YTV know now. Oh and speaking of WHR, I still haven't gotten that DVD I won in the Chibi Hunter contest... |

*stratches head in confusion* ... WHR was... "super popular in Japan?" I believed otherwise when looking at the rating it got. Wasn't it cut short because of lack of popularity?

Robin became one of the top female characters in Animage's monthly poll. The show wasn't a smash success but was fairly popular and had a devoted fanbase. No, it wasn't cut short. It ran a full 26 episodes. -Z |

I'm torn between asking YTV for Witch Hunter Robin because I want to see more non-kiddy franchise anime on the channel, or not asking YTV for it because I rented the first volume and the show, while well-done, is honestly not my bag and I doubt that I'd tune in myself (just as I'm not mailing a letter off to 4Kids asking for subtitled, intact Tokyo Mew Mew, since I cannot honestly say that I would commit myself to buying such a thing).
