Just an FYI,

Have a fansubbed version of this anime on my computer because it's never been released here on DVD in the West. I'd heard about this Japanese Ltd Ed release - it's just been posted on eBay... and it's still brand-new!!

Asking price is a bit steep for my budget though... Sad

I still might put in a best offer just to be optimistic

I've had a copy of Robot Carnival on dvd for years-although it's an hkdvd it's a direct rip of the japanese dvd video and audio wise with subs for the little dialog that is present.

Pathé films in France released it on DVD in 2006. You can still find new copies on Amazon.fr. Beware of the video quality though, its letter-boxed wide screen and the source is clearly an analog video tape rather than the theatrical print.

I'm curious about the video quality of the Japanese DVD, is it any better?

It's from the originial print-the quality is very good, anamorphic wide screen.
