Ok, I decided to pick this up. But why is the special edition in wide screen. Was it filmed matte style like TF:TM or Kubrik's films, or were the licensors just really cheap? Also is this DVD dubbed?

Well seeing as Harmageddon is a feature film it was probably realesed at the cinema in Japan and as of such is probably supposed to be viewed in wide screen.

Ok, my bad I meant why is the DVD in full-screen? Thats what I meant. I also noticed the older DVD from 98' is in wide screen.

Well... it's possible that it was meant to be widescreen... it's also old, and a lot of old films were drawn and released in full-screen.. so when people made "widescreen editions" of these films, they actually cut out the top and bottom of the image. |

Yes, thats what I was wondering. The source material for the original transfer would have more picture that the theatre version which would have some animation cut off to make it more rectangular. Does anyone know if this is the case?
