I'm a anime fan that after coming to this site for a month or something has gotten real curious about magna so I would like to hear some suggestions about a good starter magna.

It depends on your tastes. Here are some examples of diffrent Genres
Action (lighhearted)- One Piece, Rurouni Kenshin, Get Backers, Naruto Action/Drama (more mature, sophisticated)- Blade of the Immortal, Berserk, Vagabond, Nausicaa Romance- Chobits, Kare Kano SciFi- Domu, Akira, Planetes (this one is more of a drama though) Post your favorite animes if you want a better list |

I'd suggest Marmalade Boy, MARS, Chobits, and GTO. Good stuff.
Also, search around the manga forum, there's older threads like this.

I started with Naruto, Hellsing and .hack//legend of the twilight. That covers pretty most tastes right there, except for mecha. The Cowboy Bebop Manga's would be good for a starter since you really dont need much background information from the anime to follow the stories.

Man, I live and die by recommending Chobits. It appeals to both guys and girls, isn't too over the top, and is pretty to boot.

I guess you could always go with those mangas. I really don't like the Cowboy Bebop manga though. Other things you might like are Gunsmith Cats and Ranma 1/2.

I'd consider Bebop a decent starter, since it's kinda got a little of everything (okay, maybe not drama, but humor, sci-fi, action, all that good stuff) although it's not really to my personal taste. There's a lot of really great stuff out there; my recommendation would be to just go to the manga section at your local bookstore and read summaries until you find something that appeals to you.

I almost forgot to include Blade of the Immortal. Every person who has read this I know has loved it. Even girls; its one of the few seinen (manga intended for older males) that has a signifigant female following.

I got started on Silent Mobius and Steam Detectives, because I liked Steampunk type stories and Police Dramas.
I got some of my friends hooked on Manga by looking at certain tastes. Death: at Deaths Door for one of my gothic friends (which lead her into xxxHolic and Ragnarok), and for one of my gamer buddies, I got him hooked on Megatokyo (w00t! ph34r t3h cute ones!). |

I personaly like InuYasha, Shamman Kings, and Ceres - Celestial Legend (The last one is my personal favorite. Aya is the main character.) I'm still pretty new to anime/manga myself and these are the few that I've really enjoyed so far. I hope you find some stuff you like!
