Bandai Namco producer Keita Iizuka also confirmed that Code Vein 2 is a completely standalone title. This lets players go into Code Vein freely without worrying if they had to play the first game.

That kind of..sucks actually. I was hoping some more expansion on the setting, given 1's ending and the strong God Eater connections.

I guess they could leave that for the DLC.

Yeah. I hate this notion some devs get where they think making the game completely disconnected is somehow a bonus.

It doesn't help sales much because everyone just assumes you need to play the first game when they see the 2 on the cover.

Although at least they're actually making a proper separate game and not that stupid crap A.I. Nirvana pulled where they tried to make it a canon sequel that also didn't spoil the first game. So they removed all of the character development the first game achieved so that the second game doesn't "spoil" their development. All it really did was make anytime they HAD to mention the first game feel incredibly awkward. Like they either dance around the subject or make odd excuses.

It's why I'm not even hyped for their new game..those games are VERY narrative driven so butchering the story like that kills any reason to play.if you want puzzle games there are plenty others.

But anyway... While code Vein 2 isn't doing something that dumb, it's still a big shame it's not following up on that ending.

Hopefully they at least tie it to the first game in the ending. Like maybe it's story is independent but it's also happening in the same world but a different location. I'd accept that.
