I love getting to hear stories like this about getting to see first-hand how things are inside these anime studios. Those on the tour were really lucky, I'm jealous. Razz
ENGI is a studio I've always had a bit of a soft spot for since they first debuted, and it's been fun seeing them grow over the years.

Been one of my favorite studios since I got into anime. I knew one day they'd finally get the recognition they deserve.

Really fascinating article about the studio. Medalist is the first show of theirs I've stuck with, but it's certainly a confident step up from some of their previous, more modest productions.

One thing that would have been cool is a little gentle prodding about how the studio views on AI as a time-saving technique? I recall there being some speculation in season one over whether some background images with seemingly nonsensical English text had been generated that way, so I would have been interesting to hear their philosphy on its use..

I've enjoyed some ENGI anime, I've been heavily disappointed in some ENGI anime, but I appreciate this insight into the studio and am happy they keep delivering on Medalist.

Additionally, the studio as a whole seeks to continuously improve what it considers to be ENGI's calling card—its synthesis of 2D and 3D animation. They want to take the lessons learned in Medalist and apply them to Ghost Concert

Yep, for example, they use 3D capture as the base, then use animation tricks to make it more like 2D anime, as seen below:

Locking the PCs in the evening to stop people from putting in too much overtime is a good idea and should be implemented in all other animation studios. I was able to visit Studio Pierrot in 2010 and was surprised to hear that all of their office floors were open 24 hours so that animators could come to work when they wanted or to be flexible for overtime work. Considering japanese work ethics and office culture I'm sure this isn't healthy for regular employees, especially younger animator at the bottom of the echelon. I wonder if opening hours are different today at Studio Pierrot.
