Seems anime fans aren't the only ones in Japan that only care about whats recent.

I guess Aerith has held the title long enough. At one time it was Tifa over Aerith. But it does seem like the favoritism often come from what's popular. But I often find it interesting in these polls whether it's anime, video game characters, etc... if the main character has some appeal they win #1 spot hands down over everyone else with 2nd most appealing getting 2nd. In Mai HiME I think Mai was top with either Natsuki and Shizuru at 2nd or Shizuru first. In Rozen Maiden Shinku was #1 with Suiseiseki at 2nd easily. In PMMM Mami (who isn't even the protagonist) is ranked #1 with Kyouko a close 2nd. Everyone else fell within their perimeters.

So to me considering that Lightning is the protagonist doesn't surprise me that she gets #1 rank. But is it because she's the main lead or does she have appeal? It isn't often you see a sub-character get #1 over the protagonist. But if you did an ranking on popular despite the character's importance you'd probably get a different results. But Lightning is pretty bada$$.

If this was my list I would have Yuffie as my #1, Rikku my #2, and Tifa my #3. Just to add Lightning would probably be my last liked FF character. I just hate characters like her that are emotionless and only care about their objective. I still remember my friend who was freakin head over heels with her character trying to explain to me how she's a good character. Let's just say that he had a whole lot of "ugh, ugh, but she has a cool sword, Rides a horse, and she hits people like a mofo." I was like... that's not cool or interesting. I don't know but I just hate her personally.

Regardless I don't really like the list though am surprised to see Aerith not as #1 for once lol.

It's no real secret Lighting was the breakaway character from FFXIII. I knew she was in the Top 5, but above Tifa and Aerith? That's surprising. Granted, it's just one poll, but I'm a bit surprised. Tifa and Aerith always seemed like the most popular Final Fantasy girls . At least from a hentai perspective, anyway

I'm surprised Celes is so high. I knew Yuna, Tifa, Aerith and Lightning made up the Top 5, but I never figured Celes would round it out. If I had to choose I might have said either Rikku or Rinoa maybe.

More or less agree with the top three, I'd put Yuna as my #1 and Lightning as my #2, and I prefer Tifa over Aerith really, but I like Aerith a lot more than I used to ever since the release of Crisis Core. I'm a little surprised to see Ashe placed so low considering that she was FF12's female lead even if the playable protagonist was Vaan, but I won't argue that there are several stronger female characters out there. I'm cringing a little to see Rinoa ranked higher than she is, though... and, also, surprisingly no Fran. O.o Wait, what's this? Agrias from Tactics makes the list, but Fran doesn't? I'm confused... I thought Fran was really popular. ::tilts head in puzzlement:: Well, oh well. ^^; Such is the way of polls.

My list would go...

#1 Rikku
#2 Serah
#3 Yuna
#4 Rydia
#5 Terra/Tina

I'm probably one of the few people who preferred XIII-2 over XIII since I loved Serah.

Really? That's depressing. My top would be Garnet, no doubt. Then Tifa, then Rinoa, then Rikku, then Yuffie... And then Yuna, as much as I love her.

XII wasn't as well received as the other games so no real surprise there. And from what I've seen Fran seems more popular in the west since the whole 'furry appeal' has more fans in America than in Japan.

I'd put Fran ahead of Ashe if I were picking a character from XII. For a lead, Ashe has a pretty weak characterization, and I couldn't stand Kari Lundgren's heavy-breathing act. Fran and Balthier are the only characters in XII that I thought had any depth. XII is still one of my favorites because of the gambit system and the extraordinarily large map. I'm always impressed that they fit all of that game onto one DVD.

I'm also a bit surprised that Fang didn't make the list, but maybe her lesbianism was an issue with the voters. At least they didn't pick Vanille.

I was also surprised, and happy, to see Celes up near the top of the list. If S-E ever reissued VI for modern consoles, I'd snatch it up just to watch her opera performance.

I never liked Aerith. Is that blasphemous of an FF fan to say?

Aerith is a character I feel very conflicted about. I really liked her in VII, but I disliked the way they toned down her flirty/playful/mischievious traits in the rest of the Compiliation.

For the most part I agree with the general placements on this list, with the exception of Lightning. I found her kind of boring; my favourite female character from FFXIII was Fang.

I would have never even thought of Agrias but now that I think about it, she would have been one of my favorites. Ashe would probably get no. 1 on my list. I'll take Akihiko Yoshida's characters over Nomura's any day.

I mirror your response except I replace Tifa with Selphie from VIII. Only reason Lightning is ranked that high is a. she has been bombarded on people to death getting the 3rd game in what many consider one of the weakest games in the FF verse, and b. lets face it she is Cloud gender swapped. Hell when you think about it, Lightning comes from Clouds.

But I think the key thing to take away is Yuffie should always be #1 on anyone's list and if she is not, then there is something wrong with you boy.

Aerith was one on my favorite female characters in the series so I'm happy she is so high. Was never a fan of Tifa, but I am a little surprised she wasn't in the top three. Glad to see Yuna so well liked. Also happy to see Terra and Celes so high. I'm a little surprised Rikku and Yuffie are so low. I'm also surprised to see Lightning take the number one spot. I guess it explains why they are making her the complete focus of the last XIII game. Haven't finished XIII yet, but I actually like the game and her character quite a bit so it is good to see her up there even if I would place several names above her.
