Trivia:

In ep 20 at 00:17 Takeo says his baby sister Maki's hair looks like a Saiyan because it is sticking up. This is a reference to the Dragonball franchise.

In Episode 2, while Gouda Takeo is grilling Sunakawa Makoto about the kind of girl he likes, he mentions some very distinct personalities. Gouda Takeo asks which "AKB" he likes ("AKB" may stand for "AKB48" the famous all girl idol group), then he asks which he likes between "Sayla-san" and "Frau Bow" ("Sayla Mass" and "Frau Bow" are characters from the anime "Kidou Senshi Gundam").

In episode 7, when Takeo says that there are people in the world stronger than he is, he offers Karelin as an example. This is a reference to Aleksandr Karelin, a retired Russian Greco-Roman wrestler who is the consensus greatest Greco-Roman wrestler of all time, with Olympic gold medals in 1988, 1992, 1996, and a silver medal in 2000, and an overall record of 887 wins and 2 losses ever.

In episode 7, during Takeo's training montage for the judo tournament, the background music is a clear riff on "Gonna Fly Now" by Bill Conti, aka "Theme From Rocky," used in the training montage scenes in the first Rocky movie.

In Episode 10, at the train station Yamato Rinko is feeling lonely for leaving Gouda Takeo. The characters behind Gouda Takeo are from the anime "Alps no Shoujo Heidi", about a girl living in the mountain alps with his grandfather.

In episode 10, at about 18:52, the background scene that plays behind Takeo portrays Heidi, Peter and Heidi's grandfather from the 1974 anime Alps no Shoujo Heidi (アルプスの少女ハイジ) as they are running in the Alpine fields next to Heidi's grandfather's house.
