After Near 10 Year Streak, Misaka Loses Her Top Spot in Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!'s Character Ranking
posted on by Kim Morrissy
A Certain Magical Index's Mikoto Misaka has been a long-standing favorite among voters of Takarajimashima's Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! (This Light Novel Is Amazing!) poll. She has been the number one female character since 2010, a streak that has been interrupted only once in 2015 when she came second to Yukino Yukinoshita from My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected
In the 2020 issue, her crown has once again been taken from her, this time by Kei Karuizawa from Classroom of the Elite. Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, also from Classroom of the Elite, swiped the top male character spot from A Certain Magical Index's Tōma Kamijō.
The top ten characters in the 2020 issue are as follows:
Female
1. Kei Karuizawa (Classroom of the Elite)
2. Ginko Sora (The Ryuo's Work Is Never Done!)
3) Mikoto Misaka (A Certain Magical Index)
4) Mai Sakurajima (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai)
5) Minami Nanami (Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki)
6) Elaina (The Journey of Elaina)
7) Honami Ichinose (Classroom of the Elite)
8) Mahiru Shiina (Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsu no Ma ni ka Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken)
9) Shōko Makinohara (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai)
10) Lena (86)
Male
1) Kiyotaka Ayanokoji (Classroom of the Elite)
2) Sakuta Azusagawa (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai)
3) Tōma Kamijō (A Certain Magical Index)
4) Hachiman Hikigaya (My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected)
5) Kirito (Sword Art Online)
6) Kazuma (Konosuba - God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!)
7) Accelerator (A Certain Magical Index)
8) Bell Cranel (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?)
9) Sheen (86)
10) Fumiya Tomozaki (Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki)
The top-ranking light novels for 2020 were Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai Suru ("Seven Swords Dominate", lit. "Seven Magic Swords Rule") by Bokuto Uno, which won in the bunkobon (smaller A6-sized books) category, and Unnamed Memory by Kuji Furumiya, which won in the tankōbon (larger B6-sized books) category. Shirabi (The Ryuo's Work Is Never Done!, 86), Fly (Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki, IRODUKU: The World in Colors), and Shunsaku Tomose (Classroom of the Elite) topped the list of illustrators. Sword Art Online topped the decade list.
Kazuma Kamachi's A Certain Magical Index light novel series has inspired three television anime series, a 2013 anime film, and multiple manga adaptations. Syougo Kinugasa's Classroom of the Elite light novel series inspired a 12-episode television anime series that premiered in July 2017.
