Link's horse returns in 2015 game slated to ship after Star Fox

The Game Awards began streaming gameplay footage for The Legend of Zelda Wii U game on Friday. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé introduced the video at the event on Friday. In the video, Nintendo game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma highlight the game's Wii U GamePad map and Link's abilities while riding Epona.

The video reveals the expansive world that will feature in the new game. Miyamoto and Aonuma use the interactive Wii U GamePad map to explore Link's surroundings and guide him to a distant location.

Link uses the Sailcloth from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and the horse Epona also returns. Link will not hit trees while riding Epona, and he can use his sword and shoot arrows from her back. Link can also jump off of Epona and shoot arrows in midair. The game includes animal life such as insects, and some trees grow apples that Link can eat.

The game is slated for release in 2015. Miyamoto also reveals in the video that his Star Fox Wii U game will ship before the new The Legend of Zelda.

Nintendo announced last month that a Nintendo 3DS port of the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Nintendo 64 game is in development. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D is slated for release next spring.

Nintendo's Hyrule Warriors (Zelda Musō) game shipped for the Wii U in Japan on August 14, followed by North America on September 26.
