The official website of the La Corda D'Oro Octave game from Koei Tecmo Games' Ruby Party brand revealed on Tuesday that the game is now planned for release on home consoles or portable systems. The site did not provide a release date for the game.
Ruby Party originally announced the project in September 2016 as the franchise's first smartphone game, with a planned 2017 release.
At the time of its announcement, the game's story was set in a world where music can be blessed by fairies, and can perform miracles. The story begins on Harmonia, an island between the human and fairy worlds. The island's symbolic bell guides six young musicians to the island. There, the musicians confront a new environment, as well as the "music of the fairies." The characters are all from previous installments of the game series.
The game's cast upon announcement included:
- Kishō Taniyama as Ren Tsukimori
- Masakazu Morita as Kazuki Hihara
- Daisuke Kishio as Azuma Yunoki
- Kentarou Itou as Yukihiro Yagisawa
- Kishō Taniyama as Chiaki Tōgane
- Satoshi Hino as Reiji Myōga
- Kentarou Itou as Ryōtarō Tsuchiura
- Jun Fukuyama as Keiichi Shimazu
- Mamoru Miyano as Aoi Kaji
- Jun Fukuyama as Kyōya Kisaragi
- Katsuyuki Konishi as Ritsu Kisaragi
- Yūya Uchida as Daichi Sakaki
The latest major game in the series is La Corda d'Oro 4, which shipped in Japan in February 2016, and continued the story from the La Corda D'Oro 3 game. The Kin-iro no Corda 2ff (La Corda D'Oro 2 Fortissimo) PlayStation Vita remake of the original Kin-iro no Corda 2f (La Corda D'Oro 2 Forte) PlayStation Portable game shipped last December. Koei Tecmo Games will also release PlayStation Vita ports of Kin-iro no Corda 3 Full Voice Special (La Corda D'Oro 3 Full Voice Special) and all three Kin-iro no Corda 3 Another Sky (La Corda D'Oro 3 Another Sky) games in Japan on September 19.
The franchise inspired a 26-episode television anime series in 2006, and a two-episode television special sequel, La Corda D'Oro ~secondo passo~, aired in spring of 2009. A third anime, La Corda d'Oro Blue Sky, premiered in 2014 and ran for 12 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed all three anime and Sentai Filmworks released La Corda D'Oro and La Corda d'Oro Blue Sky in North America.
