GONZO Produces Try Knights TV Anime for Summer Broadcast
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Television channel NTV opened a website on Thursday to announce that GONZO will produce a television anime adaptation of Senzoku Erisawa and Shunsaku Yano's Try Knights manga that will premiere this summer. The Japan Rugby Football Union is cooperating on the anime. (Japan will host the 2019 Rugby World Cup this fall.)
The anime will star:
Shōgo Sakamoto as Riku Haruma
KENN as Akira Kariya
Retailers had listed the cover of the April issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Gene magazine early, which had listed an anime adaptation of the manga. The issue will ship on Friday.
The manga's story centers on high school students Akira Kariya and Riku Haruma. One day, the new rugby club member Akira gets advice on running from Riku, who used to be absorbed in rugby but gave it up because he lacked the physique for the sport. Akira takes an interest in Riku, and Riku's passion for rugby gradually returns. By joining forces, the pair can play a new tactical game and aim for the top of high school rugby.
The series launched with Erisawa's art and Yano's scenario in Monthly Comic Gene on June 15. Rihito Takarai (Ten Count, Graineliers) provided the original character designs, and Try Knights Union is credited with the original concept. Kadokawa will release the first and second compiled book volumes for the series on March 27.
