I recently got around to watching the original Gundam recently due to some urges from others telling me to watch it and in part because I wanted to see what was cut out in the trilogy films. I've also started to watch 0083 and it got me to thinking, of the 30 or so years Gundam has been airing, which one(s) do you like the best and why?
Here are the ones I enjoyed the most: Zeta Gundam- The story was immensely dark and the usage of political corruption of the Titans was a good way to show how governments can stray away from their original goals. The characters were fairly good as well. I liked how Char took on the role of a mentor and Four was a rather tragic character who showed how far the evils of the Titans went. Plus, most of the plot setup of Zeta was pretty much remade in the 2nd of season 00. That just shows how awesome it is to this day. Gundam X- The most underrated one. Despite being cut short, the story was very easy to follow and was rather interesting as well with its post apocalyptic setting. The characters weren't annoying like the ones found in almost every other Gundam series and were fairly interesting. 0083- Although I am a few episodes shy of finishing it, 0083 is probably the one I have enjoyed the most so far. The art is excellent, fights are fast paced and exciting and the opening themes are freaking awesome. The story, while rather simple is still very engaging. |

Hopefully this won't result in a flamewar that will probably get the thread moderated or outright locked.
Really, is there a reason to have this thread? We've already proved just recently that whenever there's a thread on Gundam's quality the fanboys from all sides come out and start warring. What's the point in starting it up again, especially when it hasn't even been a month since the last one? |

Without a doubt my favorite is War in the Pocket. It does the best at getting the anti-war message across.
Outside of the UC my favorite is Turn A. Steampunk-ish setting with designs by Syd Mead, yes please. |

Storywise, Turn A takes the cake and is my #1 Gundam. The style of that show is just fantastic, quite unlike any other Gundam or any anime show altogether. Next in line would be Zeta, 0079 and the great 08th MS Team.

My #1 Gundam? That would be Gundam 0080. Just a sad, sad story that takes war worshipping to its logical conclusion. Gundam X, Zeta and even ZZ Gundam's last half isn't that bad either.

I want to say Gundam Unicorn, but I've only seen the first episode, so that's a stupied answer. It's really, really, good!
2nd favorite, Turn A gundam. I consider Turn A to be a sort of tribute to gundam, making references to the UC timeline all over the place, and also being the most unique, 2-D animated, Gundam series, except for Gundam Gunpla Builders, which I also liked. Another thing to note is that, in general, I like characters with broken abilites, and the White Doll, the Turn A Gundam, is probabely the most powerful Mobile Suit, EVER!!!1! |

The best Gundam is Gundam (the first series, 0079.) It never gets old.
Victory Gundam and Turn A Gundam are also good choices despite of all the good/bad comments. For AUs, Gundam X is probably the closest ones to the original - in terms of themes. Other AUs are good, but they are not comparable with Tomino's Gundam series. |

I'm pretty sure it's a minority opinion, but one of my favorites is Gundam G. I've seen it get a lot of flak for being pretty 'out there' as far as mecha shows go... but I really enjoyed it. It had an unusual blend of martial arts fighting, mecha techno-babble, and backroom political schtick I've yet to see another show replicate. Plus, the focus more on the shonen-esque tournament & character interaction makes it a lot more accessible for those not typicaly interested in mecha-based anime (like myself.)
I also enjoyed Wing back in the day (haven't watched it lately, though), 08th MS Team had a cast of characters I loved, and War in the Pocket had one of the most powerful endings I've seen in an anime. |

I sooooo want to say Unicorn but it's not over yet. So I must be paitient.
As for now? It's probably G. I mean, I love G Gundam. It's so awesome and so different from the other Gundam series that it always sticks out in my mind as memorable. This is probably my bias because I love Super Robot anime though. Also, when I watched it again later but with subtitles, I realized how hot-blooded the voice acting was. |

For the UC it would be 8th MS Team - due to its great look at fighting from the "everyman" perspective and actual fighting over a physical objective (occouping land.)
For the AU, it would have to be Gundam Wing. I actually don't mind Relena Peacecraft. Plus, I like the designs of the Gundams. If I had to pick any Gundam from all the series as my favorite it would be a toss-up between Deathscythe and Heavy Arms. |

I'm just gonna go ahead and say that I totally agree with you, Dolza. And here I was thinking that no one else would think highly of 8th MS Team. I mean, any series that features a main character willing to spoiler[rip off his mecha's arm] to totally beat the crap outta his enemy with spoiler[said arm] is pretty awesome in my book. 
For Wing, I liked Zechs and Heero. I, too, didn't mind Relena Peacecraft at all. I like this one the best because of the animation and character designs. Personally, I stopped caring for the newer Gundam titles and haven't watched but a few episodes of the first SEED installment. They didn't hook me the way some of the older titles did. I've also watched War in the Pocket, Stardust Memories, and the original series. As for my opinions of Armuro... yeah. I'm just not gonna go there. I have no desire to start a war that will just end in the thread getting locked. Let's just say, he's the reason I couldn't stand the original. |

The original Mobile Suit Gundam is my favorite.
I felt that it had a touch of edgy realism, and the antagonists were good and believable. I always liked the style of the Principality of Zeon. I also liked the "NewType" controversy, and how it played out. Zeta Gundam is a good sequel to it, for the reasons that the OP listed. |

Gundam Seed –I really liked the characters and the story; however, I do not like Destiny. Destiny started off good however it went downhill fast.
I would have to say my second and third favorite Gundam series are Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team and Mobile Fighter G Gundam. |

My favorite Gundam series are Gundam: The 08th MS Team for its' portrayal of battle scenes involving characters who had no special ablilities and won their battles through teamwork, I love Gundam Wing for the diverse characters, each different with their own views and the political intrigue, and the mobile suits themselves(I am in awe when I see Heero's Wing ZERO in Endless Waltz spread its' wings), I also love Gundam X for its' incorporation of romance within the story between the character leads, I liked how the series progressed Garrod and Tiffa's relationship and I feel they are an underrated Gundam couple. Despite staff disputes that reduced Gundam F91 to only being made into a film and had potential into being an actual series, I also liked it for the scope of the story and characters and would've been better if it at least gotten an OVA treatment if not a TV series, and Gundam Unicorn is also another favorite of mine of what I've seen of it so far and look forward to see how it progresses.
