For anyone who follows both, do you know any reason why this might be the case? Has the anime been taking liberties of late? Is it just that bad?

I heard the anime was actually ridiculously faithful to the manga. The first episode was near shot by shot recreation of the manga. Of course I haven't kept up on it so I don't know if it started to change into doing more artistic license.

I don't know about that, I just wish [Huzzah] would keep up on it.
The first four episodes are fantastic, I would love to watch this whole series.

Maybe the creator changed his mind and doesn't want an anime adaptation?

That or maybe the director didn't want to stay faithful to his work or something.

It is a real shame that this show is having so much drama surrounding it. First the music has to get changed because a band member was arrested, now this. I don't know what is going on, but based on accounts by people who can understand Japanese (and aren't stuck at episode 4, like the rest of us), this is the best show of the season. Will the rest of us get a chance to find out why for ourselves? The only fan-subbers, Huzzah, seem to have dropped it. Funimation won't license it because it isn't moe. Crying or Very sad

Actually Funimation might license it even if it's not moe (they have licensed some pretty off beat series in the past.)

It's Sentai and Media Blasters that won't license it because it's not moe/harem themed. Especially Sentai in this case.

Sentai licensed Night Raid 1931.
I think Funimation is the last licensor that would try to get something like Hyouge Mono.
