So, I had a "revert to your childhood" party at university last night and the main feature was my original 8 bit Nintendo. Yep, I spent some time earlier this week fixing the old girl up (getting it to work without having to adjust the cartridge for 20minutes… the last time I got the urge to play Final Fantasy, I had to do a marathon weekend because I knew if I shut it off I would loose my game...). It works like a dream now. I hooked it up to the big screen TV, and popped in Metroid and the moment the music started I had a nice audience gathered behind me, like a moth to flame. It was great!! Despite the other activities, it didn't get shut off the entire night. Super Mario and Super Mario 3 were beat, and games like Spy Hunter, Kid Icarus, Ninja Turtles, Duck Hunt, and Burgertime were played. Someone commented how amazing it was that they could remember all the hidden extras in games they played over 10 years ago, but couldn’t remember what they learned in class last week for their exam.
Anyway, I know I'm not the only one who still loves the classics, and I thought some of you all would appreciate my amusement. I'm so glad I took the time to get it working again! So who else still enjoys Japanese engineering joy that is NES?

lol. Yes we still have our orignal Nintendo. Suprisingly it works better than out original SNES which deleted my FFVI game just before I beat it many years ago. Since then we've had to wedge paper behind the cartidges to help the system read it
Sounds like you had fun though.

Well, my NES was lost to the ages, but my SNES is alive and kicking alongside my Xbox. I'm still trying to hunt down a copy of UN Squadron. Especially since I saw the absolutely stellar anime it was based off of, Area 88. ^_^

I think that Duck Hunt is the best game of ALL TIME.

last fall, a few friends and i got together to run an ff speed game... going through the game as fast as possible. played for 8 hours, including ~1:30 for a break... only one guy finished. i woulda finished first if i hadn't gotten stuck fighting through the lich cave for an hour and a half. :p
also played batman and legend of zelda like that, too... gave up half-way through the 2nd LoZ quest. i hadn't ever beaten batman before.. so it was quite a challenge.
we'll probably get together once or twice this summer... should be a blast.

Final Fantasy for the NES? *Has just beaten Final Fantasy 1 on Origns * Yeah, I still wish Square put the retro look in as an extra. Too bad my NES broke a year or two ago. Atleast I have a good reason why I have Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda 1 and 2, Super Mario Bros, 1 and 3 on my computer.
