Where do they normally get their voices from, that would be such a fun job even tho everyone pretty much hates dubed versions of anime lol! that still would be a fun job being an anime character. Anyone know where they actually do it?!?

Heheh, don't they record the soundtrack in their studios? Surprised

You know, there are many ADR studios located around USA and Canada. If you live in California then it'll be Bang Zoom!, if you reside in NY then it's Industrial Smoke & Mirrors (or ADV), or if in Vancouver it's something like Ocean.

You'll need to live near one of the studios in order to get a place in dubbing.

Yeah the other thing youll need to is a very enigmatic voice style or the ability to fit your voice to a character's personality. If you have that and live near a place you should deffinatly look into it.

Take a lot of acting classes it will help, also voice actors have to create different voices, that is why it is somehow hard to believe that two charaters in anime are done by the same voice actor. Vancouver has Ocean studios, I think Sailor Moon was done in Toronto, I don't know the recording company for that but I don't think they do anime anymore.

Optimum Productions. They did some stuff for Toei recently, but seeing how Toei doesn't know how the US market works and has pretty much bombed here, I think it's safe to say OP is out of anime for good, which is great, because they sucked big time. Ocean is so much better (both the Vancouver studio and the Calgary studio).

LOL, I don't know. I'm not very familiar with the USA, because I'm a British citizen. But if that's where it is, then you're lucky. Very Happy

Don't go speaking for everyone just because you hate dubs lol! Rolling Eyes

Seriously, you think you're cool or something with your subtitles? Please. Just because you see a few stupid complaints about them doesn't mean EVERYBODY hates them. God, I hate how you subtitle enthusiasts assume this all the time. And why does everyone feel the need to throw in random 1337 crap all the time?

Um...if she/he wants to do VA work..don't think maybe just ....MAYBE...they don't have a problem with dubs?

Can you just chill about your whole dub vs. sub thing? She was just stating something...and in many cases she's right. There are people who like subs..and there are people who like dubs. Who cares? Let's just enjoy anime ok?

Um, chill out, huh? There's no need to have a hissy fit whenever someone who is obviously quite young posts anything slightly negative about dubs. Just take a breather, and come back when you can respond like a mature adult. Your rant is not justified by his.

People prefer dubs and other prefer subs. Calm down, Celestial was just stating that sometimes the dub version is not as good as the original. Others may disagree but if everyone started bashing others out of a different preferance then the anime community wouldn't be a community; it would be people hating other people who are anime fans just like them. This isn't a place for negativity.

They have a studio in Calgary too? I didn't know that, learn something new everyday. I might be thinking of going into voice acting, frankly I have no clue what I want to do with the rest of my life but its good to hear that I wouldn't have to travel all the way to Vancouver for an audition. Then again traveling to Calgary is like traveling to Vancouver, all on the other side of Canada. I hope they create a studio closer, they might have one in Montreal for some French dubs. I should look into all the recording studios, the closest one would be New York but someone cleared that up that it was in Texas Sad !

EDIT: my spelling is grate!

Yeah, I know, but he said "Pretty much everyone hates dubs." He is trying to speak for everyone when he says that because he's one of those morons who believes all Japanese voice actors are like Shakespeare. Rolling Eyes

Ocean has two studios: Westwood Studios in Vancouver, which is where series such as Inuyasha, Gundam Wing and the Canadian dub of DBZ were recorded, and Blue Water Studios in Calgary, which has done series like G Gundam, Zoids Chaotic Century, D.I.C.E., the Canadian dub of DBGT, etc. As for New York, there are a few studios in NY: TAJ Productions, (which mainly does 4Satan stuff) Headline Studios (they did Comic Party) and NYAV Post (Samurai Deeper Kyo, OMG! TV, etc.). NY is also the location of 4Kids and Media Blasters.

And why would there be a French dub studio in Canada? I know a lot of people there speak French, but I don't think that warrants making a dub studio for a language whose home is in another country. That's like saying they should open a Spanish dubbing studio here in the U.S., since we have many people from Puerto Rico here.

EDIT: my spelling is grate!

Not really and that was unnecessary..

Really now? So you can read their mind? Since...after reading the post...I don't see ANYWHERE that says they feel Japanese seiyuu are like Shakespeare. And just because someone thinks Japanese seiyuu can act better than the English speaking ones..makes them a moron? I'm sorry, but your opinion is not the majority. Just because YOU feel a certain way doesn't mean EVERYONE does either. I like dubs too...but I prefer subs. I think Japanese seiyuu do much better than their English counterpart on most cases...but that's how I feel. Does that make me a moron? You seriously need to the get the stick out of your butt and get over the fact that not everyone thinks like you...just like not everyone thinks like me...or anyone else.

No, I'm saying that most of the fans that prefer subs are people that run around trying to impose their opinion that words on the bottom of a screen and a language they don't understand is better than their native language because they're still living in the 80s, when the little anime that was brought over here was horribly edited and they can't get over themselves and their elitist beliefs. You are not a moron for preferring subs, nor are you one for preferring dubs, but one is not superior to the other.

And the Shakespeare thing was just exaggeration in reference to the fans who think all dub VAs suck and come in from off the street, while Japanese VAs are perfect and are superior. Rolling Eyes

Then stop pushing your opinion all over these forums. And they never once said ANYTHING about ANYONE being superior to the other. I think you just enjoy putting words in posts they aren't there. All I ever see you do on the forums is start fights.
