I'm putting up this topic to discuss Cyborg 009. Anyone have any thoughts? I just watched the first episode and was not impressed. It could get better with time like Kikaider, but it seems to be too action oriented to develope an interesting plot. Maybe I'm wrong. One question about the plot though. Why, after the first eight cyborg's have already rebelled, would any evil orginization create a ninth one? I guess they're not only evil but stupid as well.

Actually, I have to admit that it was kinda satisfying when he first used his super-speedy-thingy-button, or whatever it was called.

It's pretty much Kikiader for Kids. I liked the dub too. The only voice I feel that doesn't match up with the original Japanese track is the voice of 001. It feels way too much like Koenma from Yu Yu Hakusho. Other than that, nothing was edited and all was perfect. Toonami hooked a good one and I feel it will set in perfectly.

I kind of find it unsatisfying, but maybe it'll turn out good like Kikaider. There's still a bunch of unanswer questions from watching the first episodes. I was disappointed that they didn't replace it with Justice League, but Yu Yu Hakusho. Oh well...

I'm really liking this series so far. It reminds me of Justice League, only goofier and with cyborgs. Aside from 009, I'm really liking 007 (the one with transformation abilities).

I've only seen episodes from the second series, which came out in the seventies. It was anything but a kids show and I'd love to see it in its entirety some time.

I have a tape with a few random cyborg 009 episodes. Pretty good. Especially considering that all (yes ALL) the voices are made by one and the same person in the Swedish dub.

I really like Cyborg 009. I feel the comparisons to Kikaider are a bit unnecessary, however - yes, they're both based on manga from sentai-master Shotaro Ishinomori, but Kikaider was made around the year 2000 (which explains it's horrible use of CGI), and Cyborg 009 was on Japanese TV just two seasons ago. Why CN chose to air both shows so close to one another simply baffles me.

Anyway, I enjoy Cyborg 009 because, unlike Kikaider, they managed to resuscitate the old Ishinomori designs and make them look NOT UGLY, not to mention that the series is, as Ferquin stated, goofy fun.

Well, v1cious said "goofy" first, but yeah, I'm really diggin' the retro style. A real change of pace from the somewhat cookie-cutter anime character designs of late. Am I the only one getting tired of that weird, gaunt concavity in characters' traingular chins? Or the overly-sparkly eyes? I swear, anime characters must all wear super-cheen contacts or something to get their eyes so dewey-looking. And damn, do all anime characters have personal tailors? They've got more accessoies and strings and belts and giant shoulder pads and whatnot, it's a wonder how cosplayers can keep up with such radical clothing, not to mention the thousands of animators that have to draw all these details.

I'm really liking these older, more "flawed" and simplified designs. It just seems cooler from a stylistic point of view. It's just so damned slick.

Shellbullet asked why they would keep creating more androids even after the first 8 rebeled. It is because they need a weapon to destroy the first eight. As you will see later on, a lot of the ones created after 9 were designed to kill the first 9.

My only problem with the Cyborg 009 is the fact that the opressive government made eight Cyborgs ahead of 009 and they all rebelled, yet the gov't still thought they should make a ninth one more powerful then the rest. Sorry but that logic does not compute. Aside from that I found the show pretty enjoyable.

Cyber 009 is okay, but my is the same as some of yours, why make a ninth cyborg that's more powerful than the others if they all escaped? Shouldn't they have learned there lesson from the previous attempts?

I don't really like cyborg 009. Mad

I think CNN can show some better anime with the aleadygood Kenshin/Yu Yu Hakusho line up than cyborg 009. Confused

And Adult Swim doesn't seem to be moving much either, but i heard rumors that they might have Goove Adventure Rave next year in fall. Shocked

Please Tell me if you know anything about it. It's not too popular around here yet. Wink
