Well that was disappointing,Im not looking forward to any of those series.Normally there is at least one that sparks my interest but this time there was nothing.Subeka Miyamo no Cosmos-sou sounded OK due to the idea of having the good and bad guys in the same apartment but Im not really a fan of anime comedies.
What did everyone else think?

Having enjoyed Onegai Teacher, I was also looking forward to Onegai Twins. So far, it has actually played very well, and the second episode did not play with the whole sexual tension bit as much as was seen in the first. It's also difficult to really engage a show's true premise and qualities upon the viewing of a single episode - one might confuse an attempt at fanservice and read into it as becoming a major plot point when in the end, it's not meant to be that way.

Who knows? Some of the series may become more enjoyable as time wears on. It's doubtful for some of them, but I'm still a little optomistic. Da Capo ep. 3 played with a couple of odd things that kind of threw me. In the end, I'll admit, it's still probably not going to be a great show. But what can you expect for most H-game turned anime? The only one that I really enjoyed that I thought had an engaging story was Kanon. And I played the game afterwards and could understand why at least that one was an easy transition. But no so for most of the rest.

Well, I think the reviewers at anime newsnetwork are quite harsh with their reviews. But I suppose it's a job of a reviewer to be critical. Then again, you can't make a good review from watching 5% of an entire series. Just like the summer previews for Stellvia and Scrapped Princess. Scrapped Princess didn't turn out to be a fantasy anime, as it's clearly sci-fi anime. It was promising at first, but then the story just got too weird for my liking. As for Stellvia, I found the first few episodes bland and boring, but towards the middle, the story becomes very intriguing and full of mystery and is now even better than Scrapped Princess. E's otherwise probably had one of the worst first episodes that any series could ever have. From the 2nd ep. onwards, it does become very enjoyable. Narue no Sekai was too an excellent series. Air Master though, is honestly stupid.

And the reviewers too have some great phobia of fanservice. It's part of Japanese anime and gives it it's unique character. It'll always be there and there's nothing wrong with it if used intelligently. I don't feel that it does anything to harm the story in any way. It's just light humor. Shows like Eiken is the definition of fanservice and makes any other series pale in comparison.

As for the new Summer releases, I honestly like Da Capo. Maybe the reviewers have a strong dislike for Kanon like shows based on dating sims. The incestous thing is on the distasteful side, but it's just an anime, so anything goes. It's just a form of entertainment and it doesn't need to mimic real life. Whatever it is, you need to watch more than one episode to make such strong criticisms of a show that could turn out to be a gem or a total flop.

Although you do echo my sentiments on watching more than 1 ep to be able to give some review of the series, I have to give something to the reviewers here. Because to an extent, you may have missed the point.

I truly enjoyed Kanon... but so far, Da Capo really is weak on the character designs and hasn't given much out there to make it a "must-see" series. It has it's quirks, and the story has yet to be told, so who knows where it will go? Scrapped Princess still falls under the world of fantasy, although it seems at this point to look at it more as a cross-over series.

Ultimately here is the problem. They fully admit that this is a preview. And the first impressions are exactly that. First impressions are important to draw you in and keep you there while they get around to telling you whatever story it is they have to tell. They aren't reviewing the series for what they are, and aren't giving full blown reviews. If they decide to base their whole review of a series based on one episode, I would take issue with that. I think too many people here confuse "preview" for "review". If anything is being reviewed, it's the first impressions being offered to get you to come and look at more. And for the most part, the series being previewed aren't doing a good job of getting people to stay and watch the story unfold. None of the series have had enough episodes come out to determine if they will be "shelf worthy" later.

I plan on continuing to watch Da Capo and see if it goes somewhere. It looks like it may do that. I despised sister princess and of the "dating sim" genre, it may be the absolute worst thing to come out for it. It went nowhere without any character development and really no sense of a story at all. It was disappointing. But I still stay optomistic and keep my fingers crossed.

A preview is a hard thing to do. Case in point Eva. Most poeple don't have issues with the begining episodes, just later, (although I adore it, I do understand why some loath it.)
My two cents are Scrapped Princess is a SciFi show hiding as Slayers. I find it to be great, but it did bog down for an ep or two occasionally.
Whereas, my first expressions of Stellvia was that it was lollicon material for sickos, but friends convinced me to see more due to the ninja. I am giving it a second chance.
Lastly, Last Exile got a mediocre rating, but was snaped very quicky just as things were getting good. The show is one of the best looking thing I have seen, with only Macross Zero being better.

I guess I'm a sucker for dating sim type animes. But yeah, like you Godaistudios, I didn't like sister princess. That one really seems so directionless.

As for the preview thing. I believe a preview is supposed to give an insight of the possible storyline and lead characters. From what I've read, it sounds more like a full review than just a preview to give the readers an idea of the possibilities that could unfold in the story. Comments about the story and characters should be kept to a minimum. First impressions can be very misleading. Though I don't think Da Capo will be as good as Kanon, but I think I'd probably enjoy it anyway. And since it's still so early in the series, one can always be hopeful it gets better.

OMG, I just read the preview for Gundam Seed. I can't believe how badly they slandered and bashed that series. Honestly, I'm not a person who likes fighting or mech type animes very much. I hated GetBackers, lost interest in watching Wolf's rain and found Cowboy Beebop to be completely boring. But Gundam Seed is a rare exception. Again, watching the first few episodes from a 52 episode series and giving such negative comments seriously does not do it justice.

Yet people in the US do it all the time when they watch any number of TV shows here! You watch the first episode of a new series....then you go "BLECH!! That sucked. I'm never watching it again!" or you go "That was pretty awesome. I think I'll keep up with this."

This is no different than that.....with the exception that Zac and Rebecca's opinion is out in the open for everyone to see.

To respond to the directionlessness comments on Scrapped Princess, watch episode 12, the entire show changes to a very focused point. Its akin to slayers next or try, there are episodes where they run around and meet random people, but many of those random people were not random, and fit into the second half of the season when it becomes one runing plot.

The fact is that most of these series won't even come to America so I won't even get to see them. I still like reading the previews and knowing about what's going on in Japan. I envy all of those who have already seen Wolf's Rain and GetBackers.

Scrapped princess and Sister Princess are two completely different shows.

In fact, they are two different genres... O_O

Sister Princess is the one that is being bashed here for being directionless...

I'd have to disagree with that one. I can almost guarantee you that at least half, or most of the series will make it to America.
