What was the first animated character you saw die? It can be anime or american (should the mods allow). The first animated character I ever saw die was Geston from Beauty and the Beast. When I saw him fall into the crevice, I thought: "where did he go?" I was five years old at the time.
So state the character, what you thought (if you can remember) and what age you were.

I remember watching Raplh Bakshis Wizards when I was knee high to a grasshopper. Lots of stuff died in that and other than that I don't remember how I felt at the time. I may have been ahead of my time in the seriously jaded department though.

Oh jeez, it's hard to think back....I would have to say that the first one I saw was Mizuki in the first(?) episode of Naruto. I watched that maybe 2 years ago.

My mom took me to see Bambi when I was 4. Either that or the Land Before Time, someone dies in that IIRC...

I remember being really broken hearted for days when I saw The Secret of NIMH at the age of 6, but I guess that's off topic.

Uh here's a spoiler but... spoiler[mizuki isn't dead... he goes to prison, then later breaks out...] I didn't want to spoil too much but that is the case... I'm caught up with Japanese TV, so I'm a bit further then most Domestic Naruto fans...

Uh, I would have to say the first anime char was spoiler[Nicholas D. Wolfwood] from Trigun. That or Cowboy Bebop's spoiler[Spike Speigel]. It's hard to think back so long, I saw those when they like first came out... I was like 14... now I'm an old man... lol, jk, 21...

That I can recall, probably Nicodemus and Jenner and the others that perished in The Secret of Nimh.

Bambi's Mom. I think I saw Bambi before Snow White. If not, then it was the evil queen/witch from Snow White. Whom we were all glad died.

Sorry, that's why I wrote them in the spoiler format! haha... Oh an dI didn't really ruin anyting on the whole Naruto thing, as it's not really a big secret, just a story arch (aka filler, so they don't have to do any serious thinking, well that and give naruto some training so they can make him stronger later, and not have to explain it in too much depth). but as for Trigun and Cowboy bebop, yeah sorry... they are really good though!

Khrim...

Knowing he doesn't die isn't even a spoiler. Naruto never kills anyone, especially if it's just by normal punches. That would make Naruto seem like a pretty messed up guy, beating someone to death with his kage bunshin. If you think about it, his kage bunshin gets defeated completely like 99% of the time, though.
I don't remember which animes I saw first, though. I'd say the most memorable one was spoiler[(Dog of Flanders Spoiler ---> Nello from Dog of Flanders. I cried like no tomorrow. And then cried later just thinking about it.]

I can't remember exactly what movie was first but it must have been one of these four.

Watership Down - I can't remember exactly who dies, I think it was Bigwig.
Animal Farm - Although you don't actually see the horse die when he is taken away to be kiled I was quite broken up.
The Secret of Nimh - Poor old Nicodemus
The Land Before Time - The death of Littlefoot's mother near the start.

I think I watched all of them when I was about 5 years old on VHS.

Heh. Another one here heartbroken from Secret of Nimh. X3 Think that was the first one that really hit me.

But I also remember bawling after seeing All Dogs Go To Heaven the first time. It's a happy ending, but at the time, I was so upset that spoiler[Charlie couldn't be with Itchy and Anne Marie anymore]. Anime hyper So whichever I saw first.

First anime death, though was probably someone on DBZ. ...but as mostly everyone I liked came back to life, I don't think that counts. The Big Death in Cowboy Bebop was the first I moped about for a while, though.

Nah, Bigwig never died. He came close when he got caught in the wire, but he survived. General Woundwort was killed, though, and a ton of rabbits in the Sandleford warren died after Hazel and co. left. And some rabbit who was only in the movie, but not the book, was killed by a crow, I think. A doe whose name I forget.

My early memory is very fuzzy, but I think the first animated death I remember clearly is that of Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, after she turns into the dragon: "Now shall you deal with me, o Prince, and all the powers of HELL!" She is undoubtedly one of the greatest villains of all time.

I can't remember the first American cartoon character I saw die but it was probably some non-violent death in a Disney movie when I was a little. The first anime character I remember seeing die was Roy in Robotech.
