Just for the record, YTV's Friday night block does target 12-17 teen viewers, which is why we're really hoping that Case Closed manages to take off up here.

Hmmm, so I noticed that Disney is still not including those Daemon Corps episodes. Really, what resemblance to certain events in America several years ago is there? I found none. It's not like the children can see it, nor the parents. Please Disney, stop cutting those episodes, as they are Ken-centric and he is my favorite character in the series (besides almost everyone in season three).

I agree with Brian Hanson's prologue, but shows like The Boondocks and Family Guy bring in nearly a mill every week, also Adult Swim has been #1 with the 18-35 demographic (or whatever it is) for over a year. I'd assume that's what brings in the money.

I'm reminded of all the discussions everytime [as] showed the ratings on their bumps - how the [as] anime community say that the ratings are misleading 'cause it doesn't take into consideration the fact that Saturday has the smallest amount of household viewers tuning in. In terms of percentage viewers, I heard that anime does pretty well.

The 18-35 demographic is one of the most coveted in television, right behind the 18-49 demographic (which is hard to pry away from the broadcast networks.)
It gets even more complicated when the demographics get broken down in all sorts of weird ways. For instance "The Office" on (I think) NBC, dosen't get particularly high ratings comapred to other shows that could fill it's timeslot, but it has an exeptionally high number of affluent/rich 18-49 viewers. This means the advertising for this 8 million people can be sold for the same amount as the advertising space for a gameshow with 20 million low income viewers. Same goes for programming on adult swim. certain shows pull in certain types of crowds. |

AS was trying to move anime out of Saturdays for a while, with new episodes of InuYasha, Champloo, and Evangelion on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays respectivly. I'm not sure how that worked out, but they seem to have given up on that, since Eureka 7 will be premiering on Saturdays. Hopefully they'll repeat it during the week, but the bigger problem is that they never show anime before midnight except on Saturdays, and the later the show airs, the less viewers you're going to have. I'd like to see them try airing an anime show at the first show on the block some weeknight, just to see what kind of numbers it does.
I think it's pretty silly not to count teens as part of your ratings anyway. Almost all of the stuff I see advertised on Adult Swim-video games, Axe body spray, CD's for punk bands, cellphones-are things teenagers want, too, and often have. I'm sure there are all sorts of internal bean-counter reasons for that, but it doesn't change the fact that things like those stupid talking squirrel PSP ads are more likely to appeal to a 15 year old. |

What were you smoking when you wrote this? We're lucky that some great anime series have recently been coming to [adult swim] where they actually respect anime works by showing as close the original format as possible with virtually no edits, original OP/EDs, as well only one commercial break, which is how the series is aired on Japanese television. What other network does this? CN? G4? IFC? FOX? What are you living in Canada or somewhere they have a network that airs anime in a better format that [adult swim]? You totally missed the target on this one. I'd rather have less people see the works properly presented than more people see a chopped up mess. |
