As much as I would love for GaoGaiGar to get licensed, unfortunatley I can't believe this just yet. I never trust a forum post when it comes to information like this. I hope it does well if it does get licensed, but it'll be a tough to make sales outside of the fanbase. I know I had a hard time getting into it since you have to get past 22 episodes or so before the story really kicks in. Also I'm not too excited that Media Blasters got the license for it (not so much their product handling as it is their dub work). Even then GaoGaiGar would be very difficult to dub, what with Swan White's random use of English (her "Oh my God!" and "Jesus!" cracks me up) to Guy's infamous Hikari ni Nare! A lot seems like it would get lost in translation. But at least it's coming stateside and hopefully it will lead to companies licensing/bringing over more mecha titles.

I have confirmed with a source at Media Blasters that this rumor is true. MB has licensed Gao Gai Gar in its entirety, the TV series and the OAVs. My hope is that if this show does well, it will generate more interest in mecha anime and who knows? My dream of the Super Robot Wars games (not just Original Generation) getting licensed might be one step closer to fulfillment.
Just because she wanted me to, here's a shot of my friend's desk at MB: http://www.animeondvd.com/images/other/gaotable.jpg |
