Seems that Gamestop has dropped the price on whatever "new" (Not Used stuff they buy for crap trade prices) anime they have left in their stores.
Most of the anime at my locale is junk (Rounin Warriors, Saint Seiya, etc.), and I managed to grab the DiC cartoons (Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego and Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century for 99 cents), plus Big O II #1 and #2 for $5. And two copies of Anime Test Drive Patlabor for 99 cents.

Something similar happened at my local GameStop about a year ago. They had a 50% off all new anime. Mine still carries used anime and I frequently take advantage of their "Buy 2 Used Get 1 Free".

Why do they have anime anyway? It's Gamestop. I go there expecting to find games and games only. Anyway, my local Gamestop has squat in anime. If at all, it has old crap or complete crap that no one would ever buy. Don't ask what they have because they probably burned them by now .

I forgot to mention that after the sale at my local GameStop, they completely stopped carrying any kind of new DVD what-so-ever. I know that they were taking pre-orders for FFVII AC, since one of my friends pre-ordered it there for some dumb reason. I remember I bought Kino's Journey Volume 1 + Box during the sale for about $15.
Most of the time GameStop does carry crap, but it's by luck when they have something really good because it flies off the shelve fast or the employees buy them. For example, the other day I picked up Ghost in the Shell Vol.1 Special Edition (the one with 2 discs) used for $9.99 plus 10% discount which takes of tax. Thats not what I call crap since I've also picked up Volume 6 special edition a while back for the same price about 6 months ago. Other titles I've picked up have been Ranma 1/2 and Armitage Dual Matrix for $20, Rurouni Kenshin Legend of Kyoto Arc, and various DBZ movies. The bad thing about GameStop when it comes to used anime is that their computers are normally not up to date with anime titles that they don't do buy-backs on more recent titles. Yet I have seen volumes of Last Exile, Heat Guy J, Soul Taker, Hellsing, Chobits, Gungrave, Trigun and other good series.

Ah, yes. I remember that. My game locale is actually EBGames, they did the same thing, too. I think I saw an ad in GameInformer that they're merging or have merged, or something. I do have a GameStop, but not nearby.

Yeah, in about a months time Suncoast, GameStop, EB Games (Before merger with GameStop), and other stores began to get in on the used DVD craze.
My situation is opposite form yours, I have a GameStop nearby, but not an EB Games.

From what I understand, Gamestop makes money more off of used items rather than new stuff.

I never once bought an anime from a Gamestop, nor did I ever really find any titles I was looking for or interested in at one. Even their computer game section is pretty weak at most the stores around here.

I was very happy to see this on a trip to Buffalo!
I bought:
Haibane Renmei 1w/box 15.00
Haibane Renmei 2,4 12.50
Tenchi Universe 2 7.50
Much to my dissapointment as I opened Haibane 4 it wa KIDDY GRADE 2! I mean, WTF! Anyway I got my money back...Although I should've put that towards the GTO collection (both were there) for 45.00 each!

Eh? I saw both GTO boxsets for $40 at Borders Express. That was like a year back thought...
