Does anyone know when a box set of FLCL is going to be released?

A box set? I mean its only three volumes already so I don't know if there will be a boxset for this series. I mean does ADV still have the license for this series? Your best bet is to just buy Vol 1-3, you can probably get for cheap online now I bet.

ADV doesn't own the license, Synch-Point does. And I do believe they were supposed to release a boxset sometime this or next year. |

Well right now each dvd is around $27. And although I do love the show, $27 is a lot to pay for two episodes, not to mention buying all three of the dvds.

$27? I don't know what store you're browsing, but the cheapest I see it for in online retail right now is $16.84 a piece at DVD Pacific (note, the sale ends on June 15).

There was talks to Synch Point putting out a boxset as Kusanagi said, sometime this or next year. Fairly recently there was a re-release of FLCL in Japan, so I imagine they're waiting on those materials for the R1 release (then agian, Synch Point are pretty much up there with Urban Vision in regards to being slow)

There have been a couple of posts like this since the box set was announced around 6 months ago. In the last topic, I remember linking a news article from this very website stating that synch-points... well I forgot what it said but in the end something happened to the machines that create the DVDs so they were unable to produce copies for the boxset....
Here's the article. Although it is unclear to me whether these are the manga or DVD releases, but I'm pretty sure it's the DVD because Tokyopop released the manga. There was no follow-up article saying if the problem was ever fixed. I wonder if plans for the box set were scrapped after they had those problems. |

as far as getting em cheap, buying em from somewhere like dvd pacific is the best bet. Used on ebay they usually go for MORE, because mad n00bs jack up the bidding.
And box set sounds unnecessary for such a short show |

How is a boxset unnecessary for such a "small show"? It ran 3 DVD volumes. Midori Days (I think it was 3), Gunparade March, Gravion, and Gunslinger Girl are just a few series that have box sets for 3 DVD series.

True, but they all have at least double the episode count. Hopefully if Synch Point ever releases a box it'll be cheaper than buying all three volumes indvidually, with the box as an added bonus, of course. I mean, the production values themselves are excellent and all, but I don't think the discrepency between those and the number of episodes should still equal the average retail of all these other 12-13 episode/3 DVD box sets. |

True, but the fact of the matter is that this show is 3 DVDs. Now, will it be cheaper than a 12-13 episode series? We may never know since nothing has been announced for a long time. I would like the series to be released in 2, or even 1 DVD. Look at what ADV did with the New Fist Of The North Star 3 DVD release and how they turned it into 1 DVD. But then again NFOTNS was never as popular as FLCL. I think the question is; "Who is willing to pay the same amount of money of a 13 episode series for the 6 episode FLCL?" I just picked up Volume 3 cause I had to choose a free item, buy 2 get 1 free, and I have to say that if a box set is ever released, will it include those inserts? I know the book is not worth the trade of a full episode (because as mentioned before, FLCL only has 2 episodes per DVD), but it is one of the best inserts I've ever seen. I finally understand what "FLCL" stands for thanks to it. I remember threads trying to figure out the meaning of FLCL but everyone was just speculating and couldn't give solid evidence to their claims. All they had to do was refer to these inserts |

A few weeks ago I saw FLCL vol1 go for only $12 on eBay...Guess you have to check at the right time.
I know that there is a FLCL Limited Edition Box available, I think it comes with volume 3. I don't know how many extras it comes with, if any, but rabid FLCL fans usually jack up the price to around $50 for the box on eBay. Otherwise, a full-season box set will hopefully come out soon, at a decent price. |

I've investigated this. Only a limited initial run had the pamphlets in them. After that they don't. I ran into the same problem.
You can still find editions with pamphlets on ebay, if that helps. I hate it when they do this kind of thing. I feel a little entitled to translator's notes if they exist and I'm paying for the DVD. |
