I live in The Woodlands, TX which means my only avenue for DvD purchases aside from online ordering is the gargantuan Best Buy located here. I have been looking for volume 5 of this series to show up there, as I had bought the previous four there and the fifth is now out.

Not only has it yet to appear, a search of Best Buy's online DvD listing shows as available for purchase volumes 1-4, and volume 6 in September, but NOT volume 5. It doesn't appear anywhere on their lists of products available through their local vendors.

So my question is, has anyone heard some explanation as to why this particular volume would not be released through Best Buy? Am I overlooking something and they are just being slow in putting it on the shelves, or did they actually acquire distribution for all volumes of the series EXCEPT volume 5?

They probably just haven't entered it into their database yet, but I will say that the Best Buy where I live has been doing very screwey things as well.

The 1st screwey thing (that to this day I still don't understand) was when I bought Madlax vol 1-3. Well, they had Vol 1 and Vol 3, but when I asked about Vol 2, they said it's been discontinued from the store. So they were selling all of the volumes BUT Vol 2. And that is where I picked up that series volume by volume as they came out, and Vol 2 never appeared on that shelf.

2nd screwey thing: When I bought This Ugly Yet Beautiful World Vol 1 w/artbox, it was priced at 30.99. I thought, ok, maybe it comes with something, right? Nope, just the DVD and box. Then I looked it up online and that same deal (DVD w/artbox) is priced at 24.99! Hopefully I still have that receipt because I am going to call them on this.

3rd thing: Eureka 7 vol 2 is priced at 31.99. And there is NO special edition for vol 2, its just the single DVD, no box, no trinkets, nothing. Then I look at the single case vol 1 price and its 16.99. Special edition vol 1 (w/box, manga, OST, t-shirt) is around 40 bucks, so Vol 2 is not much cheaper than the special edition of vol 1, even though it is an ordinary single volume.

So yeah, your Best Buy is not the only one doing weird things.

This happens a lot with Best buy, either strange pricing and also lack of volume being order. Many times Best buy will skipped a volume only to come back to it in the future.

The other thing that recently happened to me was when I went to purchase some dvds. (Street Fighter, karas, Cowboy Bebop Remix 5/6) Anywho SF and Karas were both on sale for $15 and both CB were $20 each. When I went to the cashier the CB only ranged up to 10 dollars each, and the other two dvds were 15 dollars. My benefit that time but there have been other times when it whent wrong.......

So going into the BB (near my work) and getting the Lain signature series boxset. Anywho it was sticker 29.99 I get up to the cashier the item pulled up for 45 dollars! Yikes All I had was a gift card and wasn't going to pay anymore for the series. Not only that the store claimed that the sticker was a mistake. So I didn't get Lain at that BB, a week or so later I went to the BB (near my home) and was able to get the Lain at the sticker price.

Lesson learned BB can have some good deals and also there some strange trends that can happened at those stores. It's not just your stores, but then again mishaps are bound to happen.
Till next time,

The E7 V2 issue was a widespread mistake in their system, but the TUBW pricing is nothing out of the ordinary. The MSRP for any V1 + Box, even the ones that don't come with any special extras, is typically $39.95/$39.98. So, $30.99 is still a discounted price, and that's what I paid for it as well. For four episodes, that's not too bad. V1 + Boxes of Geneon series, however, tend not to be discounted at all, so you'll see Kamichu! for $50 and Kannazuki no Miko for $40.

The Best Buys around here are all over the place on when they get stuff on shelves. It's almost never the release date with the anime- sometimes early, sometimes late. Ordering online doesn't seem to help: I get boxes with tags that say "Please deliver on (the release date)" the day before or a week later. It's really annoying. They seem to be doing it (much more rarely) with regular releases, too, though; I went looking for Serenity when it came out, and they didn't have it for a week. I miss my Media Play. And I stick with other online retailers. It's a shame that Best Buy is the only game in town, now.

I get most of my anime from Best Buy and while they are usually pretty good and their prices are nice they do have some issues with stock I've noticed on multiple occassions. First instance I encountered was Otogi Zoshi volume 2, which when I asked an employee and he looked it up it was apparently missing from their listing despite the fact they had both 1 and 3 in there. So I was never able to find it at a Best Buy and had to purchase it elsewhere.

Another was Scrapped Princess Vol.2, it was in their database but not a single store in this state or any around it had a single copy anywhere and apparently they couldn't order it for some reason, not even the special edition which I was willing to pay for if it just meant I could find a copy. I also had the same problem with Madlax 2 and 4. Then of course there was the Eureka 7 deal with the DVD priced over 30 bucks for some time.

Just seems like now and then they just elect not to carry stock of a volume or never reorder it after the few they did get are sold out. I've also heard of other instances that involved various oddities with Best Buys stock and product database in regards to anime so it doesn't seem all that uncommon.

Yes that was quite a problem. It took them a week or two to fix the problem. The Eureka Seven DVD 2 now scans for $16.99 at the register. They still have the $31.99 sticker but you can take it up to a price scanner to make sure.

I agree with that. Sometimes they get some stuff a week or two before its release date. The same can be said for when they do not have it. I remember waiting two weeks before my local Best Buy stocked the second Fullmetal Alchemist tin.

After reading this thread, I went to the Best Buy site to check out if they listed it or not. They did list it. However, I checked to see if any stores within my zip code had it and sadly, not a store carries it. Does Best Buy even carry Gankutsuou?

One more thing is that I could have sworn that Ah! My Goddess TV DVD 6 was supposed to have been released right now. Last month I checked the release date, it was July 25, 2006. Last week the site says it has a new date of August 1, 2006. They pushed the release one week back.

The one thing I learned from this is to use the price scanner. If it looks wrong, scan it. If it seems wrong, come back a week or later to see if they "corrected" the mistake. Best Buy used to be reliable and now they have all these system wide errors and such.

*Edit* Spelling errors.

If your referring to Gankutsuou volume 5 I personally have not seen it there, but then again I don't know if it was out last time I was there.

But yes I have seen Gankutsuou in Best Buy, at least the first four volumes were there last time I was there. Also when it was still available I believe they had LE artbox but I haven't seen that for sometime.

Suncoast is having (or just had) a buy two for one Geneon title sale, which sounds cheaper than BB to me. TRSI is also having a big Geneon sale at the moment for those whoo don't have a Best Buy around. I personally can't stand BB, and would rather recommend one of the online stores that has a banner on this site.

I've been checking two different Best Buys (and an unrelated store) in my area for the past three weeks and have yet to see Gankutsuou vol. 5, so last night I just got sick of it and ordered it online. The problem isn't that it isn't out, as other people in this forum have claimed they've bought it and various online sites list it as being in stock, that's just one of the titles BB is apparently being screwy on.

BB has always had a reputation with me for good prices but being very unreliable about stocking titles on time. Unfortunately the more reliable store in my area for on-time releases (Suncoat) closed a few months ago. Crying or Very sad

And for The Naked Beast: AMG 6 is out. I got it last week, and I think I did pick it up at BB.

I've never seen a single Gankutsuou volume carried in the Best Buys around my house. I dunno if they're just making a mess out of distributing these shows to different stores as I always find something different that isn't in stock in the other Best Buys, or if Gankutsuou is some popular title that sells quickly (but I'm gonna go for the first one seeing as anime never does that).

Also, what's with Planetes? Once I saw the Planetes DVD's on sale for 10 dollars each, yet found out they only had 4,5 and 6 and not volumes 1-3. I was really disappointed because I was about ready to pounce on the deal, too Sad. Even their website only carries 5 and 6 now. Are the volumes going out of print?!

I haven´t checked my local Best Buy, but have seen the problem where a title isn´t available until a month or so later after the release date. Cowboy Bebop Vol.4 was not availble at my local Best Buy until a month after Suncoast had it out. I would have bought it at SC, but a week had passed since the release date so the price whent back to MSRP, so I decided to check out Best Buy, but they didn´t have it for a while.

Considering the trend of Box Sets being realeased only a couple of months after the whole series is released in single volumes, it probably was discontinued.

You should have thrown a stink! They should have sold it to you at what it was ticketed for especially if the sticker had "Lain signature..." on it. By Law, at least in California, they have to do that. They ticketed it wrong, their fault, they have to suck it up.

Yeah more then likely I could of, but I doubt that would of help anything. I work in the car industry and I deal with people yelling and screaming everyday. And more importantly I have people yelling at me for some problem that wasn't my fault, but I still get all the backlash. I didn't want to give some poor Cashier a mouthful just because the store hadn't updated their computers, in my earlier days (before I began my current job) I probably would of open a can of whoop A$$. Such at the wise age of 20 I already know everything.......I wish
