I watched it for the first time last sat. and i thought it was "interesting" and i gots some questions. First off is it a cheezy kids show or is the english dub bad (lines like that hurt my feeling now im gonna have to beat u up arae lame) How many eps have they showed on CN and last off are the orighinal Japanese. Saint Seiya bloody. (i read manga preview in SJ and i could tell it would be bloody especially showing a head goet cut off

Yes, it has been heavily edited for North American children's TV. My advice? If you're old enough to care about the changes, just ignore Knights of the Zodiac altogether and buy the subtitled (and intact dub) version of Saint Seiya on DVD.

It seems like a cover to A Flock of Seagulls song I Ran (So Far Away). And a crappy cover at best.

It sounds "cool," 80's Retro is coming back because the people whom grew up in the 80's are now stuffed with money, and I dunno, because the idiots who made this are complete morons?

Well I used to watch this anime, dubbed in polish from the french version..... and the french version was terrible.
I mean - the sense of the dialogs was basically the same as in the original Japanese, but the voices itself..... brr..... for example, the French couldnt decide if the Andromeda Knight was a guy or a girl - sometime he had a male voice actor, sometimes he had a female voice actor....
But the msot annoying thing was cencorship. They cut every "brutal" scene from the series. I mean, you couldnt see even one drop of blood in there. So the characters became big bag of bones with no liquids inside.... I guess they believed that this was another cartoon for kids.....

that is your view on this anime
I watched it (original japanese DVD) and I really liked it. I mean - maybe the first saga is SOMETIMES little boring but the Saint Warriors saga is really good. Lots of great nordic mythology. And I wouldnt ever consider it a cartoon... but hey Smile thats only my view. But what do I know... Wink

Cartoon, anime, same thing, doesn't matter. The show is a childrens one. As Zac says plenty of times, its a kids show tht has certian blah blah blah that appeal to "insert race/gender/age group here", but it doesn't change what it is

And I am still saying that this is only YOUR view which doesnt make it any more right than mine.
You think its childish? Be my guest. What do I care what you think? Its a free country. I like Saint Seiya Smile of course I am always willing to listen to other peoples opinions. I also respect your opinion - you are entitled to it. But let me have my own, OK? and my view is that Saint Seiya is not childishish - its quite good.

Completely misunderstood.

For one, I don't "not like" saint seiya. Infact I will be watching it for the first time when my DVD comes down to australia in three weeks.

FOr something to be aimed at children doesn't nessecerally mean it's childish. Not only that, I don't mind where your tastes lie. Hell, I still like and always will like Transformers.

All I'm saying is that your statement "I guess they believed that this was another cartoon for kids....." is somewhat true and I dunno, fitting. But overall despite themes of violence and character development and such, it is still a Childrens show/anime/cartoon/segment/periodical/whatever. Nothing can prove it otherwise.

and here we go again
I do not consider Saint Seiya to be a childrens show. I know it was made a while back but even so I think that for the standards of its time Knights of the Zodiac were and most definitely are a good show which I wouldnt called a Children Show. I know its not so graphic as blue submarine or as so deep and twisted like Evangelion or FLCL but still: the plot is somehow..... interesting. Lots of Mythology. Maybe I like it because I self-study Wolrd Mythologies. But as I was saying - to ME (still want to say that this is my opinion) the plot is very good, and the therms of violence - violence is actually cut to a neceserry minimum - I mean there is blood somewhere but its really not so important. Maybe I can agree that the characters arent really evolving - they are basically the same (maybe Shiryu and Ikki change somewhat during the series). Altogether I dont consider this a Childrens Show. Nothing can prove it otherwise to me Wink

I think complaining about Knights of the Zodiac is pretty much the same as complaining about Cardcaptors; you can complain all you like, but it's fairly pointless, since there is the intact, subtitled (and accurate dubbed, in the case of Saint Seiya) version available, and it's fairly futile, since the kiddy TV dub is aimed at a younger, much wider, demographic than the purist niche, which got the version it wanted anyhow.

The Japanese licensor doesn't care about what DiC does with the characters; they just want a piece of the pie in the most lucrative children's television market on Earth, and, if the nature of that market dictates that sweeping changes need to be made in order for it to appeal to the widest possible demographics, so be it.

At best, one can really just hope that Knights of the Zodiac flops big like Cardcaptors did, but Cardcaptors flopped because it never really found all that much of an audience, not because of complaints from the Cardcaptor Sakura purists. Personally, while you'll never catch me admitting that I liked the Cardcaptors dub, I just chose to ignore it altogether and buy the sub.
