Now I don't know if this has been done, if it has feel free to delete or whatever

But how about we try and get a thread going where people can say an anime and a scene in that anime that they feel was completely unnecessary for the anime, and may have in fact ruined the anime.

In this thread post -

Any scene that was completely unnecessary
Any scene that may of have ruined the entire anime

Also in this post we could include any piece of edited footage that English dubbers/editors have added, that although may be an inside joke, just really was useless.

By the way, try and keep this to the most unnecessary, as I know there are plenty that are just added for no reason, but the ones that really are out of place, ruin the story etc.

No hentai films (that were designed to be hentai, Ninja scroll, golgo, etc although they have sex scenes are not considered hentai), since well 99% of every hentai title has unnecessary scenes.

I'll start -

The scene in mezzo forte I haven’t seen it myself, but I heard there was in the unedited version this 5 minute sex scene that did nothing to the plot, ruined the entire show for the people who watched it, and honestly did nothing to further the plot.

In Eva rebirth the English version, two people or w/e are running through Eva HQ with a flame thrower, they blast a room and a guy being hit screens, then one of emm state "hit him again" and another scream follow. I saw the commentary and apparently it was added in for shits an giggles. Although I don't believe this to be the case.

That happened in End of Evangelion too.
The splat sound effect that involved Misato and a soldier.

Not scenes, but English scripts were they add dialouge to explain in no simple terms what is exactly going on to the audience..."Oh its a Japanese tea house". I can't really think of any more at the moment.

On a less serious note, possibly the whole of Excel Saga.

I could agree on you with that. But I also remember the one episode, it was like all girls special and the added extra shadows and stuff, and no men on screen. But then they put pedro in. That ruined that particular episode.

In Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto there are about five or six episodes in the middle where the story meanders into meaningless fluff, and completly looses its focus. The artwork goes downhill in these episodes too. It was slightly frustrating, but luckily it pulled itself togther for the last few episodes.

The incessent repeating of Kikyo getting attacked by "Inu Yasha" and then her nailing him against the tree.

Enough already! We know! We know!!! I swear that was played at least once every 3 episodes. We really didn't need the reminders. We are not that dumb!

Man, that is what I was going to say. I totally agree with you on that one.

One thing that annoys are comic 'effects' in anime that are have a generally realistic setting, like when Rakka's pod opens in the first ep of Haibane renmei and the door bulges under the pressure of the fluid - there can't be that much fluid in the pod or that much pressure.

The loli nudity scenes in Kiddy Grade are annoying also, and a major bar to sharing what is otherwise generally an excellent anime with friends.

The Very end of Berserk. The anime would have been fine if it had finished a few episodes earlier.

Fanservice beach episodes?
It seems like every other anime has an episode on the beach, and most of them are, well, junk.

There are a few exceptions(Fumoffu?, Mahoraba, Lucky Star), but in general, these episodes aren't very good. They tend to be just fanservice.

Well that Mezzo Forte scene is what kinda made it so famous/notorious.

Dragon Ball Z filler episodes. Goku and Piccolo trying to learn how to drive? GTFOH.

Unnecessary "recap" episodes, such as the 4 in "Wolfs Rain". One I can kind of understand, but FOUR? Did they think we were paying so little attention?

In the first few episodes of Nuku Nuku: TV when the characters introduce themselves whenever they come on screen for the first time in the episode. That gets very annoying after a while, too.

Nadesico was a very good series, but devoting over 5 minutes each to Ruri and Yurika singing in bikinis was pointless, boring fan service.

If you ever liked the show, then you'd find the filler a nice break from all the fighting. Personally, that was one of my favorite episodes due to the comic relief. I'm sorry some people can't see that.

The most unnecessary scenes in my opinion? Probably most flashbacks in Naruto, and how there's an explanation for one thing four or five times - and then later, 20 episodes down the road, you're introduced to the same idea, explained in a slightly different manner.
+All the filler - I only liked two episodes of filler, and they were still fairly boring, because most filler followed characters I never liked.

I think every scene with fan service is unnecessary. The most common would be shower scenes.

And yep, recap episodes too. NANA has a lot of recap episodes.
