Interesting, a bit of risk taking boldness on Seven Seas' part. Negatives, It's a distraction and has the potential to tie up capital & resources which the publishing arm may need. Positive is Kickstarter, they will have a better handle on how a game will sell because it, in effect, has already done so.

Will follow closely.

Hopefully, this works out for them. This is money that could otherwise have been used for light novels they could have published. But I guess Yen Press leads in that regard and Seven Seas is looking elsewhere.

As long as it doesn't lead to an increase in the price of their manga to compensate... (Yen Press manga has got really expensive since they started publishing more LNs...)

Nice.

Now to see what property no. 1 is going to be.

Something with gorgeous artwork I hope.

The big question for me is whether they're looking to localize existing games that have an anime/manga aesthetic (eg Heart of Crown, Kunitori) or create their own.

The only anime-related board game I can think of that isn't just a re-skin of an existing game (eg Queen's Blade) or a trading card game is Arclight's Little Busters EX - Dotabata Ranking Battle. There's other anime board game tie-ins but most of them are old or based off properties that are either not going to be particularly recognizable to the modern anime audience, or are based in properties like Gundam which you would think would be too big and complex for a small publisher like Seven Seas.

Guess we'll find out tomorrow.
