I love that this movie beat Captain America's box office draw on opening weekend. I think Japan is pretty much the only country where Captain America wasn't #1

Well, it's not ending no time soon so it might as well.

Doraemon and Conan are the most impressive anime movie franchises in Japan when it comes to longevity. A few years ago I would have also included Pokemon but not anymore.

wait what?, Pokemon makes more money than Doraemon and Conan combined every year. It was just revealed that The Pokemon company made $ 2.1 billion US dollars from retail in 2015. Anime is ongoing and they still put out movies every year that make over 2 billion yen.

Only the last part of the post is relevant to what I was saying.

I was talking precisely about the movie franchise in Japan, with Pokemon having its lowest grossing movie last year (beating 2002's movie).

That's an avg of 173,160.87 tickets per day. For ticket sales, that's an avg. of $11.8/ticket. Sheesh, and I thought what we pay here per ticket is pricey. I wonder what the difference between the budget and ticket sales are.
