Global, huh? So does this mean "global" like Amazon's release of Kabaneri? Where only the UK and Ireland will actually get a release, or is this actually going to end up in a lot of countries? I hope for the latter, because this movie looks great.

Global means they hold the rights to the film in all countries but Japan usually. So to be released in any country a company from said country would have to sub-license the movie through Animatsu. I am sure Animatsu want to recoup their investment as much as possible, so we should see it fairly widely released. But yeah Animatsu themselves would be highly unlikely to release the film anywhere but UK and Ireland. So if you want to see it locally, just harass your favourite local licensor to start harassing them. It is likely they are doing so already. But it will boil down to how much Animatsu wants for a sub-license and how controlling they want to be. Situations like that with say Harmony Gold are very rare, but they are an example of what is possible when you hold global rights.

As for Kabaneri, at the moment Amazon will obviously want to keep things exclusive to their services while it is streaming. Once home video plans start to be ironed out, expect to see it announced in various territories where Amazon doesn't operate, Australia for instance.

Remember Animatsu and Manga Entertainment are essentially two halves of the one company now. No idea if Manga are still around in the US, and if they are if they have any connection now to the UK arm…
