I didn't know Steam sold movies! I thought it was only games!

There was that documentary about indie films Steam sold. I wasn't aware they sold any other ones though. |

Let's see if the "We need Steam for anime because I refuse to pay for discs or streaming!" crowd decides to pay up for any of these, or if they find new ways to move the goalposts.

Way too expensive for what it is, you can get a subscription in any other streaming site for the price of buy one of those, most of them are cheaper than that too. Hell, where I live that's basically the price of a movie ticket, no way.
Not to mention some of those are awful lol, would have to pay me to watch them again. |

Answerman: "Why there aren't more movies up for streaming?"
Sentai: "You were sayin'?" Ans VALVe has been venturing into streaming content on their Steam platform for a while now. The Kindred Spirits on the Roof drama CDs are available, as well as instruction videos about art. |

I wonder if this could be Sentai's answer to the Funimation/Crunchyroll partnership. A lot of Steam users have been requesting anime for the service for a while now, so if Sentai can work out some kind of deal where Steam will have exclusive streaming rights to their shows, that might help them compete.
After all, literally *anything* is better than using The Anime Network. |

It doesn't matter. I don't know if they all have been previously released on disk, but the ones I want have and I've already bought them.

I doubt it. These are DTO, so it's more like having a movies on iTunes, Amazon, or PSN, which they also already do. In addition to the Anime Network, a lot of their shows are still available on Hulu (and weren't "purged" as scheduled), Yahoo View, and TubiTV. So they are still streaming in a number of locations, in addition to the DTO services they sell on. |

That was the start. Not long after, they expanded their selection with both movies and TV shows. As far as anime goes, Viz jumped on board pretty quickly. They have a number of their movies up and have slowly been uploading seasons of Bleach and Naruto.
This isn't quite the same thing. Plenty of anime films can be bought or rented digitally on Amazon, XBL, PSN, iTunes, etc. A lack of offerings on subscription streaming services was what that Answerman was about, which Steam's increased anime selection does nothing about. Very cool, but I'd rather have the bluray for my personal collection, if I so happen to buy any of these films. That said though, if there's something I just want to watch I suppose it could be an option.

Ooh, now this is an interesting move. I don't think I'd ever spend money to "own" a streaming-only option, and even with a download the implicitly higher-quality of a Blu-ray would always be my go-to, but having Steam as an option will definitely draw some people. (Lord knows I have an Everest-sized library of Steam games myself. ) At the very least it'd be a super-convenient way to rent something.

I would've been all over this if it was to DOWNLOAD. Streaming quality is too subpar to some of these movies...Specifically K-ON! Way too beautiful to not have in bluray quality.
