Despite that title, this has to do with people who talk down on anime based on several stereotypes. Rather than turn this into a flame on those ignorant souls, let's see if we can find the worst (or funniest) insult/prejudiced judgements made on anime. Ex: I told my _____(insert random person: Mom, Dad, English Teacher) I watched anime, they said ______(insert some random not true (or mostly not true) comment on anime). Please don't post on any one who says anime is merely a cartoon, let's dig a little deeper here.
I don't really have one (unfortunately all the non-anime people in my life think of it as a cartoon, but I've had a lot of friends who have had those kinds of things happen... )

actually my Latin Prof. quite often will tease me in the middle of class about my liking anime...when he first started I asked him if he had every watch any anime and he said no, so I asked what kind of movies he likes and lent him some anime along those interests (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust) ...unfortunately he decided to investigate on his own and looked online for anime...and found all the H sites...ever since then he has teased me even more about it and asking if that is all I watch, but he is trying to find time to watch anime that is not H...I'm just hoping he never finds any Y or he'll never leave me alone in class...

Actually, I've found that just agreeing with them just shuts them up a lot faster then aruging with them. But, the most my dad has said to me about anime is: "Oh, you're watching those Japanese cartoons again, eh?" Probably doesn't help if he says this about every cartoon I watch. But, the one that gets me every time, is the fact that someone say, sees a picutre of Vash, they assume that it is somehow related to Pokemon. I'm like huh! Another thing, because I like anime, they also assume that I watch Speed Racer, as much as I should watch it, I don't. There should be some program that teaches people the very basics of anime so this maddness should stop. Either that or the people around the people who know nothing about anime and it's ways, should correct this people. And if correcting them doesn't work, slap them upside the head, just kidding.

It's as if a lot of the popular kids anime (DBZ, Pokemon, Yugioh) have scarred the rest of us. I'm not downtalking them, but they've hurt the rest of us. It also doesn't help that there are 4 million H sites for every 1 good anime site out there...

What about "Most annoying thing anime fans think about people whom don't watch anime?"
That there's a large, organized mass opposition group in North America whom wants the United States' and Canada's governments to "ban anime". Nope... plug "ban anime" into Google, and pretty much all you get are obvious tongue-in-cheek spoof "ban anime" petitions and intentionally outrageous spoof articles, or anime fan blogs and message boards reacting to the fake petitions and fake articles as though they were meant to be taken at face value. By and large, not counting the kiddy stuff, anime fandom is too niche for the pop-culture backlash groups to give us much interest. Even when the occasional legit articles against anime do surface, like the ones on Focus on the Family which mostly date back to 1996 and 1997, there is actually sod all about banning anime in these articles, they are merely meant to inform like-minded parents.

Yep I will never understand those that bash anime then never decide to really watch it. most of my friends are cool with me because of similar intrests but its usually not in the anime area. lol they do tend to get on my case about it, and it bothers me that the only anime that they know of are the mainstream stuff in america, and the only stuff they actually watched if at all are ninja scroll...
What does it all boil down to? I would say lack of knowledge and a bit of ignorance on their part.

I'm sick of getting bashed because I like something different like anime . Everyone I try to talk to [except you guys on the forums] knocks anime. None of my friends or my parents for that matter could care less.

I don't get much bashing. But whenever I mention anime, I do get a lot of rolling eyes...
Maybe I just talk about it too much.

The most I ever get is a hard-time, which is nothing special, because at my work all we ever do is give each other a hard time (for fun, of course ). And, if the best thay can do is the fact that I watch anime, which has been public knowledge for years, then that's good.
Maybe, that's just the advantage of being out of school and out of the house. But, I don't think that's it, I never got much of a hard time at either place.

In school I always get the "you're sixteen and you still watch cartoons?!" comments. I just laugh it off and ignore what is said. My parents strangely enjoy whatever anime I give to them to watch (even Cat Soup). My dad watched Speed Racer all the time when he was younger so he's cool with the whole anime thing.

I've never really had much harassment with malicious intent (friendly joking harassment, yes, but then...yeah...friendly & joking, and usually from fellow anime fans). In high school I always just got blank stares whenever it'd come up around non-anime fans, and in college (God bless the Art Institute), about half the campus is at least into one or two titles. My folks never give me any trouble either...they actually love Cowboy Bebop, and are interested in checking out other parts of my collection (namely AKIRA, Blood, Ghost in the Shell, Trigun, Witch Hunter Robin...).

Same here. (Except I'm 18, of course.) But I just grin and bear it. I've never been bashed offensively for liking anime, people have just joked about it and poked fun at me. My mom is used to it, but doesn't show much interest. My little brother and sister are into it. In fact, my sister (8 yrs) has watched all the stuff on CN and AU, and loves Blue Seed and X. [evil]Haha! Corrupt the children![/evil] As for the rest of my family...not a clue. I really haven't met that many anime fans back in high school or at my college campus, except for the rare one that eyes my bishounen-clad notebook and actually recognizes the characters.

I'm sick of hearing fans bash non-fans...
and vice versa.
This thread ends now.
