Considering all the well-deserved praise it got, After the Rain ...to say it isn't doing well would be an understatement. Sad

On the other hand, I'm glad for the numbers of A Place Further Than the Universe, the show is well worthy of those. Smile

Those After the Rain numbers are pretty depressing, though not surprising. Well animated, well directed, and pretty well received, so of course it sell as well as a 3rd-rate harem rom-com.

It's a romantic drama aimed at women. Those don't sell.

I'm not sure I'd describe a seinen manga as "aimed at women."

Unless you want to say it's aimed at middle aged men who'd like to diddle their kids classmates, I'd say it's aimed at women.

After the Rain did not sell much because it is well written, and Japanese otaku are allergic to that. It might have sold well if it had "sexy" 12 years old girls.

Except that doesn't happen in anime, and even in the rare cases it does, those don't sell.

Removed personal insult, which violates the rules. You have previously been warned for condescending behavior to other users. --willag

Ero Manga Sensei begs to differ. Smile That one has had good sales for both the anime and the original light novels...

Okay, we can nitpick some exceptions probably, but it's really not what usually sells, or what anime is known for.

No, it’s not. It deserves much better than that. Both shows are great, but there’s no need to be so salty that you feel the need to put down a show you didn’t particularly enjoy just because the one you preferred more didn’t do so well. Rolling Eyes

Wut? I was praising it. It's on its second week, with combined numbers higher than Free! which is at the top of this week's chart. Smile

Because its not seinen. It's josei, manga aimed at adult women.

The manga for After the Rain is serialized in Big Comic Spirits which also serialized Saikano, Tekkonkinkreet/Ping Pong, and 20th Century Boys.

That's not exactly a magazine being aimed at adult women.

I'm kind of bemused that this is even debatable. Regardless of what the content is, it was serialized in a seinen magazine, as has already been mentioned. That's the deciding factor in what it's classified as. No one's stopping women from reading it, but why would they serialize it Big Comic Spirits if they were targeting an adult female audience? That makes no sense at all.
